It is sad to me that only 3 KS schools were at the Stampede but 9 OK schools. Being the most competitive tournament a school can travel to and being just over the state line I would think 10 KS schools would want to get into the mix.

Six teams that are Nationally ranked by Intermat were at the Stampede. Sadly no KS teams have cracked the top 50 this year.

Probably the best way to get National ranking status is to wrestle national tournaments like Stampede and of course you have to do well in these tournaments. National rankers really don't care how well teams do in the Eudora TOC or the Johnson County Classic. Might help in State rankings, but wont get you anywhere nationally.

Down year for Kansas or are Kansas kids not wrestling enough national competition to get noticed?

College level wrestlers will get noticed and the coaches around the country know who they are for the most part. No doubt it helps for a college coach to see how kids stack up against other competition. There were several young men at several tournaments in Kansas, Missouri, and other states that were not at "XYZ Tournament". Nearly impossible to have over 400 high school teams from Kansas and Missouri at the same tournament. Coaches will make there decision on scheduling and parents and kids show up to those given locations.
I just looked - our kids club goes to 22 tournament from now until the end of March. I do not get tons of input on scheduling from parents - for several reasons.

True about getting noticed. But, have talked to some college coaches in 2 or 3 sports. All said they did not have the time in season to do recruiting visits to hundreds of HS matches and tournaments. They just do not have the time nor the travel budget. At best, in season, he may send a JV or GA (grad assistant() to a near by wrestling event. State regionals and state tournaments get a little more priority for recruiting---the state level qualification process filters out the crowd. All the coaches said their recruiting efforts focus on the out-of-season competitive leagues and tournaments (i.e wrestling), club sports (ie AAU for BB and premier/club soccer), some summer league baseball, and top level sports camps-especially FB. So, anyone have any idea of how many MAJOR D1 or D2 head wrestling coaches were at Perry, Council Bluffs, or the Stampede. Probably some assistants or GAs from surrounding colleges were there (CMSU?, 2 or 3 NAIA Mizzery college, maybe a some Kansas CCs, may even have had someone from Fort Hays or Benedictine. Doubt if there were any head coaches from power wrestling colleges--especially back east schools--too far and too expensive--and the coach's team is probably also wrestling that weekend. If you have an elite athlete, in any sport, college coaches know about him or her. So why travel long distances out of state, especially in the middle of winter. Glad my kid did not have to ride back to Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska etc. on icy roads--that's putting kids, parents, fans coaches unnecessarily at risk---a tragedy waiting to happen!!!
Why not stay local, wrestle good Kansas tournament, and with your good wrestlers improving the local tournament competition level, help improve Kansas HS wrestling. Think that will also improve you team's performance at regionals and state where you may get seen by more recruiters.
If you can not rebut what I have said in my posts--don't bother me with one liners or name calling. I think I can at least put a paragraph on paper.said

You are the problem with America today. A tragedy waiting to happen? Absolutely ridiculous! Tragedies are not normal everyday happenings. Driving to Perry Oklahoma on a perfectly normal day is not a tragedy waiting to happen. Driving to Kansas City is not a tragedy waiting to happen. This is normal day living. Should we wrap our children in bubble wrap and protect them from life? No, we should encourage them to push themselves, have experiences that will make them grow as a person. Life is to be experienced not feared.

I think Mr Mason must have wrestled at the Afton Quadrangular. He might be the guy that beat Wes on that bad call his junior year. Either way his posts are too funny to be real!

Can we all stop giving Mr Mason (Mr Trolling) the courtesy of a responce and focus on the wrestling?
We all know he is talking out his A.. and is like a little brat throwing a fit on this forum. Wrestling is like no other sport and can never be compared to soccer, basketball, baseball, etc.
He just wants the focus all on him. Which he deserves no ones respect here. He will go away if no one response to him. He will go back to written BS editorial to his local paper.
Lets get back to the kids and updates.

Can someone provide a list of the place winners of this tourney? Or a link? Interesting discussion you all are having and all . . . but where/what were the final results of the actual tournament itself?!
Was posted on the forum already and I missed it?
Thank you.

Here are our team results found on track wrestling! This is our third year attending this event and it has only made our team and overall program better in my unqualified opinion! I really could care less what people think about our schedule or anybody else's schedule, a coach is only concerned with getting his team prepared for the State Tournament! Thank you for sharing your info Coach Prieto. I appreciate it. I also like and agree with your comments that precede the results of your team!
However, I'm still wanting the overall place winners for each weight class. I find it strange that such a big and important tourney is keeping the individual results 'top secret'. Grin.
Is there a new rule on the forum that I missed that states something to the effect of, 'you will be banned from the forum if you post the individual results of a weight class from a tournament'???

You are the problem with America today. A tragedy waiting to happen? Absolutely ridiculous! Tragedies are not normal everyday happenings. Driving to Perry Oklahoma on a perfectly normal day is not a tragedy waiting to happen. Driving to Kansas City is not a tragedy waiting to happen. This is normal day living. Should we wrap our children in bubble wrap and protect them from life? No, we should encourage them to push themselves, have experiences that will make them grow as a person. Life is to be experienced not feared. Don't know what the weather was this past weekend in sunny, tropical south Kansas and Ark City. West of the KC Metro area it started misting and freezing rain on Friday night, and sleet and more freezing rain on Saturday. Think that storm came right up I35. Not worth the risk to be out on the road---not a sunny, family drive. And we certainly must not CODDLE the kids---probably your favorite word and most frequent post and topic. To insure they don't feel coddled we should buy the coaches a bundle of strong cane whips, and the coach can whip them into shape before and after every practice. That would shape the little JDs up. A few red whelps on the back, butt, or legs never hurt. How many scars do you have from your beatings?

I just found this:
Archer’s wrestling team is ranked No. 1 in Georgia and the Tigers made a strong case for national consideration on Saturday.
#Archer had 10 wrestlers place in the top 10 of the Kansas City Stampede to win the tournament at Hale Arena.
#Archer scored 557.5 points to beat nationally ranked teams Stillwater, Tuttle, Edmond North and Bettendorf. Collins Hill placed 14th in the tournament, which featured 40 teams from 12 states.
#Vinny Artigues (106 pounds), Daniel Bullard (160) and M.J. Couzan (285) led the Tigers with runner-up finishes. Thomas Bullard (152) was third, Quinn Miller (182) was fourth, Chris Diaz (126) and Same Bullard (138) were fifth. Grant Aycox (132) and Garrett Miller (170), Jacob Lill (220) were ninth.
#Eagles’ Russell wins Stampede
#Collins Hill’s Sean Russell won the 120-pound weight class at the Kansas City Stampede on Saturday.
#Russell was one of three Eagles to place in the top 10. Ryan Millhof was second at 126 pounds and Griffin Riley was fifth at 132.
#Parkview’s Shakur wins McCallie
#Parkview had three wrestlers place at the McCallie Invitational in Tennessee on Saturday, including tournament champion Kamaal Shakur.
#Shaukur won the 145-pound weight class, Reese Dalton was second at 106 and Andrew Webb placed fifth at 138.
