I'm hoping that someone can help me with how tournaments are seeded in KS. I grew up in South Dakota and they had a seeding meeting at almost every tournament after weighins. I thought that the seeds were to, in theory, have the best possible match up in the finals. Now I know the point of view that you need to beat everyone in the bracket, but unless you're in a round robin you don't have to beat everyone in the bracket! I thought that tournaments just let trackwrestling do seeds, but that can't be after seeing brackets with the top track rankings being seeded near the bottom of the bracket.

I would say for the most part, track wrestling does a good job. The best wrestler may be at the bottom of the bracket, but that does not mean that the two best kids are not separated. Some Clubs do not rank their wrestlers. Therefore, the best wrestler may get the last seed.
Something to remember, this is just kids wrestling. It is nice to get the best kids separated, but if it doesn't happen it is not the end of the world. Their are at least twenty weight divisions in five age divisions. Let's just say their are six wrestlers in each weight class. That is 600 wrestlers a tournament director needs to try to seed. Impossible, especially if you start getting kids from other States or Districts entered in the tournament.
They do seeding meetings for Subs and then automatic seeds all the way to State. This seems to work really well.

Thanks Beeson. We've been wrestling down here for about 4 years and my kids typically shouldn't be seeded very high anyways, but this year it seems that there are a lot of quarter and semi finals matches that have the best kids and then the finals is the winner of those matches pinning the kid from the bottom half of the bracket in the first period.
