Congrats to the Holton 4A State Championship team and to Cullen Jackson our Head Coach and 4A State Coach of the Year! Back to back baby! I have not posted all season because I believe the cream rises to the top and I have believed in our team of boys and our coaching staff. The boys had a great year, winning all tournaments, except for Newton, including Regionals for the 1st time in Holton history and Back to Back State Champions! Haven't done that either!
So until next Spring, I'm out!

Congratulations Holton! Quite an accomplishment! Your missing 2 people though Kim. Congratulations to Jason and Justin Ogden. Most of the team learned wrestling in kids from these fine coaches. Good job on your 2 championships Ogdens. Again, congrats Cullen and Holton.

Pat, You are right!!! I did forget 2 people. Mike Lovvorn and Koby Price of Jackson County Wrestling Club. They were the main influences in my boys wrestling for years. We have traveled to USJOC, Tulsa Nationals, Brute Nationals, Liberty Nationals, Southern Plains, Folkstyle Nationals and to Kansas Freestyle and Greco State and a multitude of other local tournaments, or Cokely's barn in the past 5 years....and prior to that Justin and Jason coached in the room but rarely my boys.
I am not and will not tear down the Ogden's but they were not the one's that taught my boys, respect, responsibility, grace under pressure or how to get a takedown. This was started at home in our front living room floor by my husband. I will give JCWC coaches and teammates a shout out as this is where it began. But it has been YEARS since this team of boys, less one, has been coached by the Ogden's.
I will say that the Ogden's, or atleast Jared, came up and congratulated Lucas and Mike on our wins , the team and our Championship this year following both Regionals and State and complimented us and our Holton coaching staff.
We didn't win a League title until 4 years ago when Coach Jackson started coaching HS, Holton has never won a Regional or for sure a State Championship until Coach Jackson started coaching. He brings an entire team up to another level. JV included , he works with everyone not just a few elite. Our boys have him to thank for the work ethic and dedication to our team in the room day in and day out!
So Pat, when you say I forgot 2 fine coaches , you are right. Sorry Mike Lovvorn and Koby Price...your dedication to the sport and to our boys speaks for its self. Thank you for the countless hours outside a wrestling room spent making our boys what they are today. And to Scott Baum, Brett Fletcher, Jimmy Lovvorn, Corey Shields, Ryan Phillips, Bob Phillips, Noel Montgomery, Duane Rieschick and Rex Frazier over the past years in the JCWC kids wrestling program.
It is awesome that HOLTON wrestling qualified 12 and placed 6 this year and we are blessed to have the coaching staff that we currently have in Holton.
Peace Out, Kim Lovvorn ( or Until the next time you ruffle my feathers.)

I don't like the tone in which you dance around the Ogdens. Also, coach Howerton, Congrats for help building this team. This would have been his team.

Congrats to Holton, obviously they are doing things right. Football and Wrestling as always go hand in hand. Great kids, coaching and parents it takes all three to have this kind of sucess and in my mind the touhgest 2 sports in 4A to win it in.

Mrs Lovvorn, I do not know you but do know your husband is a Holton alum. You do not seem to know Holton's history very well. Though they had not won a league title for a few years, they won league titles in 1986 and 1988. Additionally, if memory serves me you did win a regional championship, many years ago. I am sure Bob Phillips could answer that.
Congrats to Holton and Coach Jackson.
Though this is Coach Jacksons team, Coach Howerton did in my opinion rebuild the program at Holton after a few unsteady years of prior coaching turmoil and without his building blocks, Holton could not have taken the final step!

There are several people that play parts in the success of programs and individuals. A lot of people seem to have influenced this program. No program or individual champ is made by one person. Parents, fans, supporters, partners and coaches all play major factors. I commend the great wrestling supporters both present and past that have influenced this great team. The Ogden's as well as Coach Jackson. As a kids club coach and a high school coach, it is my job to pass off kids that are battle tested and ready for the high school grind. As a high school coach it is my job to help rally the support, get everyone on the same page and to polish off my final team. This takes an effort from everyone. I think the kids as well as all of the coaches have done a fantastic job with this group. Keep raising the bar for 4A, as it gives the rest of us something to shoot for.

What 4A Coach of the Year award are you talking about? From what I read Andy Albright of Chanute is the KWCA 4A coach of the year

I believe that Coach Jackson was the Officials vote for the 4A coach of the year (and definitely deserves it). The KWCA coach of the year is voted on by the KWCA coaching members and cannot be a replicated award. This means that you cannot win KWCA coach of the year 2 consecutive years in a row, unless they have changed this rule. After you win the KWCA Coach of the Year you have to wait 2 years to be selected again.

Congrats to Cully, his coaching staff, and the Holton HS state championship wrestling team! It's great to see a school that has football and wrestling coaches working together to compliment each program.

If a coach deserves to be selected for the KWCA award in consecutive years then why not let him have it?

They probably made the consecutive years rule so that Wayne Jackson wouldn't win it like 20 years in a row.

Holton placed 2nd in 3A Regionals in 1990-91 with Coach Sadowski. Which per Bob Phillips is the best we have ever done prior to this year.
Holton last won league in 1986 and 1988 under Coach Sadowski.
Holton has won league the past 4 years under Coach Jackson.

The KWOA Award is for sportsmanship, voted on by the officials association. It is a good award.
The KWCA Class Coach of the Year Award is voted on by all KWCA member coaches at the State tourney for any head coach that is a member of KWCA. Once a coach wins, they are off the ballot for 1, maybe 2?, years.
