I have done some digging and found out some very disturbing news. District 1 voted on adding the high school kids, 42-4 against letting them enter late. District 2 was told this had already been passed and there was no vote. District 3 was told all other districts were on board and it passed in D3. District 4 voted it down 36-2.
BOARD MEMBERS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YOU ARE TELLING LIES. YOU ARE DOING WHAT YOU WANT NO MATTER WHAT THE VOTE IS. YOU ARE MAKING YOUR OWN RULES. IT LOOKS LIKE THE ENTIRE BOARD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED NEXT YEAR. FIND SUITABLE REPLACEMENTS, THESE GUYS SHOULD BE EASY TO GET RID OF. VOTE FOR WHOEVER IS NOT IN OFFICE RIGHT NOW. SHAME ON THE ENTIRE BOARD.

District 1 & 4 voted against the decision to allow late entries. Apparently a miscommunication in D 2 & D 3.

The District State Director and his/her two Assistant State Directors will determine the number of qualifiers from Sub District to District. Each District will have this responsibility.
This Bylaw allows each District to autonomously decide how to advance wrestlers to Districts. Two districts simply ruled it was not necessary to have a qualifier for districts. The district that REALLY didn't need any subdistricts elected to do so as the Director chose to leave the process up to a vote. District 2's Director and Assistant Directors made a decision without a vote. District 3 created a solution and it was passed by vote. District 1 went to a vote and decided to maintain the sub district qualifying process.
Bylaws can be changed. If you have issues please submit your suggestions per the process outlined in the Bylaws.
See RULES tab and Select Kids Bylaws
I promise no one on the board was trying to harm any wrestler or favor another. Consider: Cost of travel, low number of participants, high number of scratches in this Division, and the time wasted. The fiscally responsible decision is to eliminate HS subs.

So how is this working? I have been hearing rumors and I think we all need clarification on what is going on here with the high school division especially since there are no brackets up yet for high school subs. I have heard dozens of different things from different people. Please clarify so we can be honest with the kids because they deserve to know exactly how this is all going to work. Thanks

Richard can correct me if I’m wrong.
As I understand it, any HS wrestlers that wish to wrestle Subs AND weighs in on Friday will be bracketed by the tournament director. They do not have to wrestle Subs if they choose not to. All HS wrestlers will automatically advance to Districts whether they wrestle Subs or not. The official seeding meeting for the HS division will happen the morning of Districts.

They don't even have to weigh in for subs, but they do have to pay their $20 for subs. Then just show up at Districts.

D1 and D3 are wrestling at subs and 2 and 4 are not. Very weird.

Registered: 03/10/13 Posts: 26 Why was sub district cancelled for high school in D2? To save money? Less Travel? Not enough Kids? Here are some facts as I read them....
1. There are 32 total brackets that were to be wrestled in D2 High school division this weekend. 16 of those are big enough brackets that kids would be eliminated. That's 50% of Brackets
2. In 8U there are 36 total brackets with 16 big enough for kids to be eliminated. That's 44.4% of Brackets
3. In 10u there are 40 brackets with 16 big enough for kids to be eliminated. That's 40% of Brackets.
4. In 12U there are 42 brackets with 13 big enough for kids to be eliminated. That's 30.9% of Brackets.
5. In 14U there are 46 brackets with 19 big enough for kids to be eliminated. That's 41.3% of brackets.
Why the special treatment for High School Kids. The rest of us are hard working parents that could use a financial saving of not going to SUBS.

D1 and D3 are wrestling at subs and 2 and 4 are not. Very weird. I think only 13% of the HS brackets in District 4 have more than 4 guys entered. Some zero or one. The decision makes sense there.

And yet they are not one of the two that are going with the decision.

And yet they are not one of the two that are going with the decision. Which is a bummer for those guys. Travel for no reason.

What about all the other divisions that are traveling for small brackets.... My big question is why special treatment for High School Kids? I'm not saying it doesn't make sense, just wondering why it's not across the board rule. Especially in D2 where the numbers indicate that High School Division has a higher percentage of brackets with more than 4 kids.

The timing of such a decision was bad. This should have been in at the fall state body meeting - not 1 week before a qualifying tournament series - PERIOD - That is my opinion. Personally, I liked it when there was a 16 & under division. The high school division was created for a few reasons - 1 was to increase numbers, secondly it was to give a chance/opportunity, bragging rights, to the various high school classifications to have a crack at each other after the KSHSAA state series. I am not sure what the wording in the USWKS qualifying series is exactly. But - subdistricts has always been the qualifier for districts and the districts to qualify for state. Even if their was 1 kid in a weight in the past at subdistricts - he weighed in, collected his medal, went on and wrestled in the districts and moved from there to state.

I agree with a decision like this being prompted a week or two before subs being absolutely in foul taste. The sad thing is most parents have not been informed of these decision unless of course they are following this forum. Promoting Kansas wrestling does not involve implementing judgement calls midstream through the season that affect the athlete/parents schedule ie) State Basketball. It only stirs turmoil among us. As mention prior, this should have been proposed and voted on at the fall state body meeting!!! Shannon Peters
