Looking at the State Brackets this year I have noticed that there are A LOT of kids with over 35 wins, and still have the State Tournament to add more wins. Personally, my son is 34-10. So I guess my question is, Is 100 wins really that big of an accomplishment anymore? I saw several kids with records of 25-25, these are .500 wrestlers that could easily hit 100 wins for their career, but also would have 100 losses. If Jake was to duplicate this record for the next three years he would be 140-40, which really is not that impressive.
Back when there were only 30 matches a year hitting 100 wins would fairly impressive. With kids getting 50 matches a year now, 100 wins does not seem that impressive. I think the number needs to go to 125 or 150. Thoughts?

Glad you said it. It is a nice round number, but easier to get than it used to be.

I have no problem with giving a little appreciation to the wrestler that gets 100 high school wins. My biggest concern when looking at the Regional brackets yesterday was seeing how many teams had a number of holes throughout their lineups. We need to be more concerned with keeping young wrestlers wrestling. By the way, I would have loved a 140-40 record, but I was pretty proud of a 103-60 record that my son had combined with his 1st Team All-Academic honors.

One hundred wins is still a commendable milestone. You have to be a really good wrestler to reach it. You have to be one of the best to reach 150.

AGREED. I see alot of wrestlers getting 25-28 wins in a season and not place in their Regional. They could do that for 4 years get 100 wins and never qualify for State. Does not make them a bad wrestler, just not the elite wrestler in their class at that time. Guess that is why there is GOOD, BETTER and BEST.
It would be great to have stronger rooms that develop 10-12+ 38 win wrestlers year in and year out instead of 2 or 3 wrestlers every 4 years.
Hard work beats Talent when Talent does not work hard.

Not only do you have to be one of the best wrestlers, you also have to have the opportunity to wrestle enough matches to get to 150 wins. I consider my son to be a pretty good wrestler, but he will end his career barely getting 150 matches. Winning percentage might be another way to compare top level wrestlers.

I can see your point of view, but have to say that when my son reached 100 this year it was a milestone. He only wrestled 1/2 a season his freshman year and then was injured his junior year his first weekend back from rehabbing from an injury his sophomore year. If he had wrestled all four years without the injury he would have definitely exceeded 150 wins. However it did not end up that way.

Boy, I'm glad this talk forum carries 0 weight. 100 wins is an accomplishment. Period. So is 150. Elitist snob and wresting don't belong in the same sentence. Until you get on this forum. Good grief.

I missed 2 tournaments in my career and i only wrestled a total 137 matches. I would definitely say that for some to get 150 wins is incredible but for alot of people its just not possible.

You're right we should tell a kid that goes 100-100 Great Job. I'm not an elitist, I just don't think a .500 record is worth bragging about.

I agree with Cavanaugh, 100 wins is a great accomplishment. And Beeson be realistic. Any wrestler who gets 100 wins would never have 100 losses. I know you are trying to prove a point but that was a terrible reference.

I have seen a lot of 25-25 records. Its not really that too far fetched. Give wrestlers enough matches, say 50 a season, which they get easily now and they should win 100 in three or four years.

150 is elite and should be noticed but don't take away from the ones who do get 100. Not all kids have had the privilege to wrestle kids club or jr high wrestling. And to wrestle only 4 years and reach 100 plus wins to me is also elite. By the way my son Jaden Helms just got his 103 win in Fredonia this weekend, and is no. 1 in the all around rankings , so please don't rain on our parade. Thanks.

Well just for fun lets start putting the entire record...Wins and Loses 100-?? I'm curious how much bragging will go on when losses are included in the record not just wins.

First I want to make the point I am not for the socialist lets make everything equal no one gets left behind way. I think slackers should be left behind & hard workers should be recognized & rewarded. But hard work & dedication to wrestling does not always lead to a elite level of success.
Instead of only recognizing the very elite. How about the young man that wrestled all through high school & worked just as hard as the rest of our club & missed going to state by 1 point in his senior year. If I were giving out a wrestler of the year for our club he would be my choice. There is many wrestlers that never make it to 100 wins & deserve all the respect & recognition the world beaters do.
Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.

Unless you are Roberson or Maynes then you have a loss with your 100 wins.

Ok I'll play ! First of all this isn't Jaden speaking it's all his loud mouth Father me.... First of all ask any coach that knows Jaden Helms he is a top notch kid all around and is as humble as they get. Never once bragged about any of his accomplishments, so that's where I come in. Which. He has a lot. To answer your Question 103-24. 26-12 his freshman year in Colorado wrestling for Rocky Ford. 11-4 So. Year wrestling behind stud Clay Wilcox, only wrestling a couple tournament unattached. 31-8 last year and 35-0 this year both not having a partner to practice with anywhere near his weight. Not bad.
