My little brother got screwed over at hays. He should of easly had first but a ref didnt give him to reversal points in the semis and it costed us a loss and a first place.

Hachmeister, What comes around goes around. Your little brother benefitted from a bad call to win a match at the Russell tournament. One of our wrestlers was down 4-0 going into the 3rd peroid. We went neutral and threw your little brother in a headlock and he was probably on his back for 20 seconds. The referee only gave us 2 point nearfall. We should have won the match 5-4 not a loss in overtime and another bad call on a takedown when both wrestlers were out of bounds. I have the video if you would like to watch it. Because the ref clearly counts to 5. I didn't get on here and criticize the referees. I really think the referees did a outstanding job for working 14 mats which equalled nearly 1400 matches for the day. It goes both ways. Sometimes we get the calls and sometimes we don't. It all equals out in the end.

It is so easy to put the blame on a ref for a loss. I've done it myself ,then I became a ref for 5 years, If you get the chance to become a ref in the near future--try it--then your eyes will be opened, and you will see and understand what they see. Quit looking for excuses on a loss. You can hear this gripe at every tournament you go to even at state. If they made a mistake remember they are human. And there always looking for good refs, hopefully I'll see you out on the mat,in the near future.

Don't categorize all of refs at Hays as being bad. There may have been 1 or 2 weak officials but overall I was very impressed. Also hats off to the Hays Wrestling Club for getting the tournament done in a timely fashion. With 850 kids wrestling and being done by 4:45 (most mats were done much earlier) is a great accomplishment. Thanks again Hays for running such a great tournament.

I would like to thank all the coaches and officals on a gob well done. We had no problems to speak of and this is due to the great job by both the coaches and officals. Thankyou to all the clubs that attended and made the tournament a success. Also, thanks to all the helpers that made the tournament run so well. Hays has several great people that make this tournament what it is. Brian Schumacher Hays Wrestling Club, Tournament Director

Young ref on Mat 1 struggled all day. He made a call on locked hands, then when the parent of the kid said he was wrong, he tried to change it. Later a kid scored a takedown and at the end of the move he grabbed the head gear. The opposing coaches told the ref he missed the call so he changed it even though he admitted he never saw the headgear being grabbed. I know refs make mistakes, but you need to have conviction in your calls, and not change them just because someone tells you that you missed something when you never saw it.

You are 100% right on this and the only way to change it is to let these young refs get some experience, and not jump down there throat. They get all worked up for the rest of the day and after the tournament they start wandering if the few bucks they're making is worth it. Coaches play a big role on refs, intimidation is something coachs take pride in using towards our young refs. so the next time you see an incident like that, go over to the ref and tell him he's doing fine, shake it off ,it gets better, and maybe he'll stick around the next year.
