The KSHSAA Executive Board has approved a change in the 5A & 6A Regional Tournaments. Instead of 5A and 6A regional tournaments being composed of four 8 team, one day, tournaments, there will be two, two day, 16 team qualifying tournaments in each classification. The top 8 placers in each regional will qualify for the State Tournament.
The only thing I don't like is taking the top 8 instead of 4. Everything else is very positive. 1. Two weigh-ins 2. #1 and #2 Should never meet until the Finals. 3. The top 16 will go to State. I'm sure there are more positives. Great job.
This will be a positive if the powers of the regions are split equally. They cease to become "super-regionals" of one is "super" and the other isn't. Then we have the same problem as the past few years in different packaging.
Definitely a step in the right direction, though.
The fact that girls are forced to wrestle at state in the middle of the week is laughably sexist.
