The Burlington and Eureka Wrestling Clubs will be partnering together to offer a great weekend of USA Kids Wrestling in East-Central Kansas.
The Eureka Wrestling Club will be hosting an Open Tournament on Saturday, January 15th. In addition, they will have Club Championship and Sportsmanship trophies.
The Burlington Wrestling Club will host two divisions within their annual tournament on Sunday, January 16th. They will host both an Open division and a Novice division. In addition, they will host Club Championship trophies within the Open Division only. Burlington will also be giving a Fastest Pin Plaque in each of the Open Division Age Groups. The Novice Division will be all Round Robin with medals given to each wrestler in the novice division.
As part of their partnership, weighing-in at the Eureka Tournament will count towards the weigh-in for the Burlington Tournament. All weigh-in sheets and skin check information will be transferred from the Eureka Club and will be recorded on the weigh-in sheets at Burlington. Wrestlers will only need to check-in at Burlington before the 8 a.m. cut-off to be ready to wrestle!
Contact Information for the Eureka and Burlington tournaments can be found on the USA Wrestling Kansas web site under the Tournaments*Calendar link.

My son will be wrestling in the novice tournament. This is his second year, he is 8u61. Last year at the Burlington novice he wrestled 8u55 and took home first. It was a very memorable tournament. Burlington did a great job. Go Osawatomie

if he wrestled Novice last year and won tournaments than why is he wrestling Novice again this year. Time to jump to open tournaments and give first year kids a chance

Yeah, what is the rule there, or is there one?? Is it up to the disgression of the coach? I had always thought that as long as the wrestler had never placed first or second at a tournament then he/she could wrestle novice. Or, is the wrestler only considered novice their first year?

I thought that a novice wrestler was considered a first or second year wrestler that has not placed in an open tournament this year or last year.

I believe that this has been talked about at the State Level, but to my knowledge nothing as been enacted offically at this time. However, the recomendation that I know was submitted stated the following:
•Must be a first or second year wrestler
•Can not have placed in more than four Open Tournaments
•Can not have won an Open Tournament
•Can not have won more than four Novice Tournaments
Hope this helps answer the questions.
