If they split these up basically the same way as always, several kids that should place at state won’t qualify from a loaded sub-state bracket and lesser kids from a weak sub-state bracket will medal at state.

Agree, they have to cross bracket after the district tournaments. Regionals need to be formed from other districts other than the neighboring one. Don't care if its a lot of travel for regional tournaments.

STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT: 1. The tournament will be held on a one-day format. 2. Each tournament is an 8-person bracket. 3. The brackets are set from the sub-state qualifying. 4. The top three teams will earn state trophies. 5. No warm-ups or practices will be permitted at the state tournament site the day before the tournament. 6. The tournament schedule will be posted soon.
Mentions top three team trophy as always... no mention of individuals... Assume Top 6 still medal?

How will the 321-A 8 person brackets be handled when they have more than 8 people at districts? This is a distinct possibility as our numbers don't divide as easily as the larger classes do. There will have to be more than 8 teams per district. Last season there were 87 wrestling schools in 321-A Regionals. We're looking at roughly 11 teams per district. While we all know that not every team will be full, there is a good chance that some of the middle weight brackets could have 10 wrestlers. Perhaps this has been addressed, and I just missed it, but I would hope that there is a plan in effect to deal with this inevitable eventuality. Thoughts?

After their format for girls state last year, it was clear the thought process didn't go very deep.

It says the state bracket is 8. I don't see that it says the district is 8. Assume some 321A will be more

It says 8 districts. So there will have to be more than 8 kids per bracket

I get that this throws a wrench in some people's regular scheduling and some brackets could have more than 8, but these are NOT normal times and getting to have a season at all continues to be an "iffy" proposition. Lets not miss seeing the forest because the trees get in the way.
IMO the emphasis should be having a state tournament, and/but. . .
The current proposed arrangment will not allow all qualifiers will get to the State Tournament.
Incidences of covid cases are much higher now than in the fall and quarantines are more common. Chances are this will only continue to increase in January after additional spread with the coming Christmas holidays. With qualifying tournaments three weeks in a row the chances are extremely high that a kid misses Substate or state due to a quarantine.
Lets say a wrestler places in the top 4 of his region, and during the next week one of his opponents tests positive (or develops symptoms and then tests positive). The qualified wrestler is now quarantined for minimum of 7 days (new guidelines are he can test after day 5 from exposure and are cleared day 7 if negative and symptom free). The wrestler misses Substate and cannot qualify further. Same thing is going to happen between substate and state. Also, there are legitimate scenarios where a kid who ends up positive can knock out 2-3 qualifiers from a bracket. These are kids who end up being negative- but just because they wrestled a kid who ends up being positive they will be sitting due to the current quarantine guidelines.
There’s no good solution here, but if we are trying to get the best kids to be able to compete at a state tournament (not just the lucky ones) we should allow more time between qualifiers for the testing process to play out. Example, if we did Regionals Jan 30, Substate Feb 13, State Feb 27 we would have the CHANCE of a kid that gets exposed at the qualifier to make it through quarantine and compete. There needs to be more time between the qualifying tournaments to allow our kids to make it through any kind of quarantine window.

Several good points mentioned above. One thing to note is Girls, 4A and 321A have an additional qualifying tournament so that would have to be Jan 16. That would basically make 2nd semester all postseason tournaments with not much seeding criteria or time back from break to get into shape. But I get the concern and like the idea to space it out. Especially since kids won’t be replaced in brackets if they get Covid

A months worth of post season. That is a long time to stay healthy and not be quartantined. If you are quarantined in that month you miss out.

Many have said this from the start. And with Kshsaa concerned with the Covid spread, just makes sense to expose the athletes twice as many times, right? Kshsaa also indicated that the travel thing played into the decisions also and that there were not going to be any cross bracketing because of exposure and the distance situation. Whether it is a one day event or two day event, seems that "All: teams will be there the first day anyway? So the exposure time us a mute point. So why not have a regional event early and then the state two weeks later to facilitate any quarantine issues. But I suppose that the entry limit of 112 wrestlers played into this also?

CDC says test after day 5 which is day 6 if negative can be released after day 7 which is day 8 Sedgwick County home of the 5A/6A State tournament adopted policy 12/16 which states that if ANYONE tests positive at a basketball game all competitors, coaches, cheerleaders, scorekeepers are close contact and 10 day quarantine Also states will apply to wrestling which would mean an entire regional would be quarantined if one wrestler tests positive and says their symptoms started within 48 hours of competition. We lost group of kids on Thursday because wrestler tested positive on Thursday said he had headache on Sunday. Wrestler he wrestled and all kids he interacted with at practice for 4 days quarantined.
Also the rule that home contact positive is assumed to be sick for 10 days and kids quarantined for another 10 which means kids out 20 days gonna make it crazy. Some employers are requiring testing to keep job so if someone in your household gets positive result you are out 20 days? Only option I see is to have our supper Regionals then two week break State Tournament (Travis Keal idea) which I think only option.
It will get Crazier before it gets better

I will make this even more complicated. Quarantine is up to your home county no matter where you are exposed. Earlier in the year, I was exposed by a nurse in Seward County. Seward told me I did not have to quarantine because it was a low risk contact. They had to relay my incident to my home county because that is where I live. My home county made me quarantine for 14 days and told me it is your residential county’s call.
