What makes this sport great is the same thing that makes it so stressful on us. The best sports are the emotional sports. The ones that make us "wear our heart on our sleeves". My son has leaped for joy after matches and he has cried his eyes out (we are working on handling that better) and I've told my wife that that's what emotion does.
I haved learned that when he wrestles I go up to the top of the gym so he can't hear me (he never listens to me anyway) and try to watch it as a fan. That three minutes is some of toughest three minutes of my day!

I get sick when I read of lost valuable items at wrestling tournaments.
If my child came home with an electronic device which I know I did not purchase, the item would be returned to the host tournament director immediately.
It is difficult to understand these electronic items being misplaced while another parent does not notice their child with the new (to them) gadget.

I agree, how about lost cameras - I have digital that was seen but still no one has found it. I even put my last name on it. Of course it was mine not the kids and I didn't realize it was gone until we returned home.
Any one see it - lost at January Meade Tournament.

The whole point of sports is to teach winning and losing. And more importantly, how to deal with both. Don't lose sight of that. Both wrestlers walk off the mat no better or worse than they went on. The difference is who's arm is raised. What I teach my sons and daughters is that there is value in winning no less value in trying. My little 5 year old cried after his first loss after 10 wins. The second time he realized that sometimes you do not always come out on top and not a tear was shed. All he wanted to know was if he would still get 3rd place in the tournament.

My children are also learning that it is OK for one of them to go and not both of them. We are learning so much thru wrestling. Emotions have been high and we still go on to the next day! Good luck to all parnets out there still suffering! :p

I would just like to thank, not just my parents, but all wrestling parents for spending their precious time following us kids around to the sport that we love and are so devoted to. I would also like to say that it takes many people around the state to keep our sport alive and positive, and they deserve much thanks.

Windjammer, I am so glad to know other parents feel the intense butterflies also!! We are at 8U and this was our first year to wrestle at Sub's (last year he broke his hand going for 1st and 2nd the first tournament out), it still took my stomache a while to stop wrenching even after he had the medal in hand and would go on to Districts. It is so helpful to read other parents "struggles" with this as well. None of our "non-wrestling" friends understand what we go through. So thank you to those who share their stories, they are encouraging to us who are walking on new ground! I am so thankful for the life lessons this sport teaches my child!!!

Don't I know it. 2 days until weigh-in. And hopefully 11 days until the season is over. Bubbleguts.

We all have to remember that this is probably harder on us than it is for our kids. I remember my mother being a "basket case" before my big tournaments, and until now I never understood why. As a kid, I never felt anywhere near the nerves that I do now that I have kids out on the mat.Yes, I am now the "basket case". Hang in there parents.

OK! Only one more week of this sickness to go. Then we'll all have to suffer through the withdrawl. Oh well. I guess we can distract ourselves by filling Saturdays with catching up on all the things that have taken a back seat to wrestling.

Its just kids wrestling! Dont put too much pressure on it or your kids will get burntout and quit before high school.

I think the purpose of this thread is to allow parents to poke a little fun at themselves, not to put pressure on the kids. And by the way. How can anybody say "It's just kids wrestling!" Come on get into the spirit!

My son is in Football too, very competitive league, but i don't get near as worked up about football like I do with wrestling. My stomach has butterflies now thinking about this weekend. Funny that the one that is competing Saturday is going to be heelying after school then watching cartoons tonight & sleeping like a baby.
