Does anybody know the ref that was at Basehor last weekend, the one that screwed Ingenthron from Hayden, and favored all the Basehor wrestlers in every match he officiated? He was terrible he really jobbed Hayden and Wamego as well in matches. It seems kind of peculiar that this ref was at the seeding meeting with the Bashor coaches, then seemed to always be in their matches. Any one hear of something like this happening anywhere else?

I really don't think that this is the place to slam refs. It is really hard for me to believe that they get up in the morning and say to them selves that they are going to rip a certain school today. I have seen him ref many times and I think he does a great job. So did about 16 other coaches who voted for him to do the regional. He was a great high school wrestler and a great college wrestler. You also need to remember that there was a assistant ref for that mat so that if mistakes are made then the two of them can talk about it. So both of them thought what they were doing was right. Kyle made it to the state tournament and if he is good enough he will have another shot to wrestle Dukes. The match is over move on.

I agree. Refs are just a way for people to make excuses for why they lost. Obviously, they were voted to do regionals and state, so someone thinks they are doing a good job.

The easiest thing in the world to do when a match doesn't go your way to blame it all on a "homer" ref. Where I come from that called an excuse, not a reason. I have told my wrestlers for years that if the match ever gets into a position in which a questionable call from an official can decide it, you probably didn't do enough to win the match yourself.
Do I ever have a problem with an official's call? Of course; what coach doesn't? Heck, I had some serious problems with at least one match at our regional at Wellsville. But when we start blaming all the ills of the world on poor officiating we've lost our focus.
It's like the argument about what happened in the 130-pound final at Wellsville where the young man got DQed and knocked out of the State tournament. Making the issue the call (or non-call) in the first period rather than what happened in the third period is excuse-making; we make our own breaks in life and using an official as a cheap scapegoat is dodging the issue.

I agree with you totally gangreen. Don't put yourself in a position where the ref has to decide that match. The best wrestlers do enough so that there is no possible way a ref could determine the outcome of a match

Please don't misinterpret my question or statement, I agree that the wrestlers should take it out of the refs hands, but to take a point away after it is rewarded is pretty unusual.

What about when the 2nd ref overturns the head refs call, and they let that stand? Isn't he just there to oversee, and only intervene when asked? Yes, the refs should not control the match, but unfortunately this has been the case - more so this year than in the past, i think.

Also, I think you would have a lot less angry kids, coaches & parents if the officials would keep a neutral ground, and let the kids wrestle it out on the mat. Of course, let me also say that there are those refs who are continously fair and impartial. They call out their awarded points loud & clear, so that everyone knows what they are doing. They are consistant in their calls, and they keep the wrestlers working on the mat. My thanks and appreciation goes out to these folks, which in my opinion is the majority!

can anyone tell me the rule on stalling this year. It seems to me it is different with every offical one calls it early to get himself in scoreing position, the next lets the kids wrestle. I'm just curious.
