There were several good matches. The Elliot vs. Baker match was a really good match that Baker won. The match between Sponsel and the Turner 215 pounder was really good and Sponsel won. The 160 pound bracket finals match between Wise and Chenoweth was also a very good match in which Chenoweth won. The 135 lb match was quite exceptional with Scott Elliot being crowned champion. These are the matches I remember.

Wise took Chenowith down in the first and Chenowith escaped.
Chenowith escaped again in the second
Wixe took both up in the third and Chenowith took him down
Final score 4-2 - close match with several good flurries

Chenoweth actually took wise down in the 2nd period after he got away. It was a pretty ugly shot but he was able to do a nice little arm drag out of it and take Wise down. Wise took down in the 3rd period and Chenoweth rode him out the entire period. Chenoweth appeared to be in a lot better shape then Wise was in, and that helped him ride Wise for the whole 2 minutes. As you were watching the 3rd period it really seemed like Wise was winning because of how much harder Chenoweth was working to turn him. There was a couple of points at the end of the match that it looked like Wise was going to get turned, but he fought out of it. It was a very good match.

This was an excellent tournament!! The people running it were 1st class and the competition was as good as it gets. Some of theese finals were as good as the Newton finals without the smoke.

Are you kidding? They didn't have smoke and smoke rules. If you don't have smoke and strobe lights, you can't compare.

Mitch didn't wrestle very good. He wasn't ready.
He got a lesson. That is not to take anything fom the other kids at 135. Matter of fact they could all learn from this. If you have an opportunity to accomplish something special, there is a price to pay. Something extraordinary requires extraordinary preperation. There is 4 wks. of wrestling left. For these last 4 wks dedicate yourself to your goal. When you are older, you don't want to look back and regret
not giving your goal everything you got. Beleive me it haunts you for ever. you have only 1 freshman year, and you don't get overs.

Is BC better than Turner this year or was Turner missing some of its studs?

Based on Chanute, BC is barely better but they were better last year and Turner won state. Turner has a weaker regional and will probably qualify 14 as they did last year. BC has one of the toughest if not the toughest regionals regardless of class in the state. I am sure that they will be delighted and feel blessed if they get 10 through maybe 12. This could be the difference at state.

Turner was without 145 Rios, who is ranked very high (although their JV guy got 4th at 145).

Easy now BMOCPAPA, no need to get wound up in a knot over my comment. It is a very UNBIASED statement, which just happens to be true. Hey, I know, life "ain't" fair. It is just life. Some regionals are tougher than others. It happens every year in every class. Same reason that some very deserving kids don't go to state every year and some less deserving kids do get to go. Hey, I know, life "ain't" fair. It is just life. I'm not taking anything away from Turner. They are a great time and they just show up and wrestle. They deserved to win state last year and if they win it this year, they will deserve it. And I am not affiliated with Carroll so please don't try to pull the boo-hoo whine card, because Carroll Eagles don't whine, they just show up and wrestle and take care of business. Like I said, my comment was a very UNBIASED statement which just happens to be true.

So sorry if I seemed a little HARSH. Did not mean to. Only point, you must win matches at state to score points, for your team. Could 14 wrestlers make a diff.,only if they would win 2 or more matches, or place. A good point for you would be the top 5 or 6 state ranked kids in one reg. at one weight and only four get to go.That would be sad.I think Tom Peterman(pit-bulls) had only 3 kids on his team back in the days, and they took 3rd. at state.Bottom line, must have wins with any numbers.
If they win a couple or more matches, God bless them.
