I am a former high school and college wrestler. I was also a kids coach for a few years. My son is a high school wrestler now. It has been brought to my attention that a school my son's team competes against is cheating on weigh in's. When thier are home weigh in's (which is most of them) they don't even bother to weigh in. I know the Coaches and Athletic Director are responsible for this. Our team has alot of ties to this other team, family and friends, so my information is pretty reliable and it came from different sources (including team members). I'm sure they are not the only team doing this though. My son's team uses digital scales and if they are one tenth over they don't make weight. I'm sure most schools are like that. Is their anything that can be done to make sure these kids are competing on an equal basis? I'm not going to tell who this team is, at least on this forum, so don't ask. I would also like to point out that Ward Cleaver is an alias.

It is too bad this type of thing happens, I would hope almost all coaches would have enough respect for the sport and their school not to cheat. If some schools are doing that Hopefully it will catch up to them at two day tournaments where they have to weigh in the evening after competition or at regional and state meets were everyone has to be weighed in by state officials.

Nebraska adresses this problem by having the wrestlers weighed in at the site of the compatition by refs but i wouldent worry that much if they arnt making weight durring the regular season then it is only going to hurt that much more on the first day of regionals or state

It is always interesting to watch at state which wrestlers are having to run non stop throughout the day in order to make weight. Makes you wonder????

Can only comment that the only equitable way to settle issue is to have shoulder-to-shoulder weigh-ins. That jeopardizes the health of our wrestlers...which is why off-site weigh-ins arose in the first place.

One of my favorite teachers (AD and vice principal) used to say that "Locks are made to keep honest people honest".

Hopefully kids, parents and administrators will take note and, if warranted, provide enough pressure to stop the practice.

The greatest thing I learned from wrestling from my high school coaches (Dwight Hemmerling and Jim Lee) was that INTEGRITY (to self and to others), HONOR (to God, your family and your school), and DUTY (to our team mates) are paramount. When those are in line, winning is just an off-shoot.

All a man has is his word and his honor. If a coach is doing this, I pray that he takes a LONG hard look in the mirror.

Just thoughts.

i think that instead of saying you can lose 10% of your body weight at the beginning of the season it should be you get 10% of your body weight added to your regular weight and that is what you wrestle. my personal opinion is cutting weight sure can make a good season seem really long, but some people think you have to cut to be competitive with people who cut weight.

If a team is cheating on weigh ins it will come back to haunt them. I recall a team a few years back (not the one that got all the publicity) who never made weight all year and then come Regionals when they had to make weight for the first time, they were so drawn out and weak that they went out and failed to qualify a lot of their best kids for state.

Regardless of whether or not it will come back to haunt them, it's still entirely bogus. You'd think the wrestlers, or especially their parents, would have a little more respect than to cheat all season. Now, I don't have any kids (that I'm aware of), but if their coach knowingly let them cheat, and was perhaps encouraging it, I think I'd serve him up a knuckle sandwich.

Fanatic--who was the team? Or at least give an area of the state or perhaps league.

It was a team from East central Ks. I would rather not say who. They have a different coach now and I think are honest now.
