Why in the world are so many of you worried about rankings? The best part about wrestling is that state rank is proven on the mat. Who cares who is ranked #4 in January? I understand it is something everyone likes to look at, but some people seem to be worrying about their kid getting overlooked and how that will somehow effect what will happen in Feb. Same with the team rankings. Would you rather be #1 in the rankings or take home the 1st place trophy at the state tournament?

Bravo for your comments!Rankings are a great thing, the people who compile them do a thankless job and they are fun to talk about, but they are also absolutely meaningless. The only measure that matters is the one on the mat when they wrestle. Up until then its just speculation. Don't worry about how Wichita and Hays will end up until we get to Wichita and Hays. That's when it counts.

I agree. i can't tell you the number of times I have thought the rankings were-are just plain wacky. Everytime I stop and realize. They mean nothing and nothing is sweeter than to win in a upset, and nothing quite as sickening as to be the favorite and get beat. Just win and smile!!!!!!!

I also agree, the only thing rankings do is make the wrestler feel good when he beats a ranked wrestler or better ranked wrestler than himself. It all comes down to the big show. Anyone can be beaten at any given time. Get on the mat, give it your best and enjoy what your doing!

I agree with you also. What difference does it make what rank you are weekly. All that matters is where you finish in the end. All of the other matches prior to state are to prepare yourself for the big one in February. Maybe they should get rid of rankings altogether and just start listing wrestlers to watch. Then everyone would stop complaining about who's ranked where and why so and so isn't ranked.

Rankings should be taken for the entertainment value that they give. The individuals who do the rankings are giving individuals consideration and recognition based on input that they receive. For the fans, it gives us an idea that the upcoming match between two ranked wrestlers could be a pretty good one to watch. If a ranked wrestler loses to an unranked wrestler, it gives you something to talk about. If you put too much into the rankings, you may be disappointed. Look at the NCAA BSC rankings this past football season and tell me people were not disappointed or worse. I enjoy looking at them and appreciate the work that goes in to making them available.
