Who does everyone think would win in a possible Beloit tournament matchup between Lukas Zouzas and Mat Gilliland?

It will no doubt be a good match. Neither of them will "beat the heck" out of the other one in my opinion. Two great wrestlers in what will be a very good match.

Zouzas looked real good this week-end. I was extremely impressed with him and can't see a kid in the state stay within 5 points of him when he peaks this season. However, thats why we wrestle the matches.

I think you guys are already deciding the outcome they have to get to the finals first… they both should be there but Beloit is no wiener roast and anything can happen!

I agree with RJW. It should be a great match. Zouzas speed is almost impossible to handle. Gilliland is calculating and does not make mistakes.

I'll take Zousus over Gilland 6-2. Zousus could also be going for his 4th title but was upset by one of the Metzlers his freshman year in the finals. I've seen both of them wrestle and neither one of them make big mistakes but Zousus is slightly more aggressive and quicker. Gilland is tough but a little to modest with his style. He is constantly winning by decisions and almost had his 3rd title taken from him by Lamar.

I guess we'll have to wait for saturday to come, until then, I'm going with Zouzas even though Gilliland is very underrated.

What good wrestlers has Gilliand beat in the last couple of years, besides Lambotte?

I don't think Gilliand is underated. I think Gilliand is a great wrestler, but the reason many people do not give him the respect that most 4x'ers get, is in two of the years he won state titles there were several others at the same weight from 4A,5A,& 6A that could beat him.
for example:
2001 119lbs. 123A- M. Gilliand 4A- A. Devoe 5A- D. Hoover 6A- M. Bradley I think most people agre that he would not have won state at any other class besides 123A.
2002 125lbs. 123A- M. Gilliand 4A- E. Jones 5A- D. Hoover 6A- B. Trullinger I think most people would agree that 6A is the only other class he would have won state at. I believe Gilliand won state in double overtime against Lambotte this year.
2003 130lbs. 123A- M. Gilliand 4A- E. Jones 5A- J. Ashpole 6A- D. Seilert Gilliand had good chances of winning 5A and 6A this year, however he had his hands full winning his match against B. Lamar in 123A.
2004 140lbs. 123A- Gilliand will win 4A- J. Terell 5A- L. Zousas and J. Cornejo 6A- S. Hill (I think Hill is at 145lbs?) This weekend is a great chance for Gilliand to prove himself against Zousas. I would also like to see how he would do against Terrel, Cornejo, or Hill.
In any case I think anyone who said Gilliand is not a great wrestler is dead wrong. Hopefully we will get to see him wrestle Zousas and one of these other guys in the Senior Classic.

id have to agree with u bigpin...gilliland is a great wrestler, but i think the only wrestler in the state around that weight that may have a chance against zouzas would be danny grater but...im not just sayin that because im from clay center. We'll see though Gilland has a chance too.

Yeah, Grater is a stud. I would also like to see him a Eirsman wrestle agian. They were both All AMERICANS in the same bracket a few years ago!

Don't really care to engage in this debate, but I was wandering who the two time state champ that gilliand beat as a freshman? I was primarily associated with 4A when I was involved with HS wrestling so I don't know much about 3-2-1-A talent. I watch from afar these days so I don't recognize as many of the fine wrestlers out there today.

The 2-timer that Mat beat as a freshman was JB Harding from Norton. I saw their first match of the year at the Hoxie Invitational in one of the early rounds. I can't remember if Gilliland was an 8-seed & met up with him first round or if he was a 4- or 5-seed and wrestled him in the semis. But I do remember it was a 1-2 point match (4-2 or 4-3??). That was the first time I had seen Mat wrestle, and I remember being impressed that he definitely wasn't intimidated wrestling a 2x state champ in his first high school match. Mat lost to JB at least 2 more times that year before he finally beat him in the state finals.
Norton & Hoxie is always a big rivalry. But JB gained a lot of respect that night because he took it pretty well considering he hadn't lost for a couple of years.
