That Johnson kid from norton is going for his third title and his winning streak is probably close to 50 i think.

If his streak started his junior year, how has he wrestled 60+ matches already?

Man, you guys are brutal on poor Togam! You are going to see the win totals steadily climb with Kansas finally participating in more dual and pool tournament formats.
Tanner wrestled five matches at the SME dual, six at Colby dual, and eight at Lees Summit. This is not uncommon in most surrounding states. You had a state champ in Iowa last year with 60 wins in a season. Stephen Mocco had over 220 career HS wins at Blairstown Academy (NJ).
Actually, the match totals in Kansas are half of what they should be (look on other state web sites - most programs have their kids in 40 plus matches by State) This is slowly changing. Basically, Togam is just ahead of his time!

How could you win 40 matches ever season.. you would have obviously win every tournament which puts you a lil under 40 if you win state.. so how could someone have 220 in HS even if you won 50 a year which is almost impossible cuz you dont have that many matches unless you count nationals which still prolly wouldnt do it.. you'd only have 200 wins.. and they only have a centinial club.. highy doubtful for 220 or even 50 in one season.

Gardner won consolation semi and his 3rd place match at state as a sophomore. So add two wins to his streak. 63 in a row. 41-0 last year. 20-0 so far.

Kolat119:
You have to remember that a lot of states have different rules about matches than Kansas. In the example of the Iowa kid who won 60 matches his senior year, his team's schedule included dual meet tournaments every week of the season. So if you figure eight tournaments with five matches in each, that's 40 right there. Then you add a regular dual meet schedule, there's probably 10 more, then add in that Iowa has a Sectional tournament (2-3 matches) and a District tournament (2 matches) and State (4 matches), getting to 60 anymore isn't difficult up there.
That's a lot of matches, but it's becoming more common.

Plus five matches in the Iowa state dual team tournament! The majority of your Iowa state champs will have between 45 and 53 wins now. Add the state and dual team format and it climbs pretty quickly. I believe one of the Paulson twins ended up with nearly 200 career wins at the end of last season.

Mat Gilliland from Hoxie lost in the finals of last year's Hoxie Invite to Kapaun's Hoover. He hasn't lost since. Won his next 32 in a row last year and probably has 17 +/- wins so far this year.

Just a note but you can, in fact, wrestle 40 matches in a year, especially if you go to several two day tourneys and wrestle on pigtales which happened to several top ranked kids at the Basehor Tourney. I've had several wrestlers wrestle as many as 36 in a year without a great deal of two days that are so common now. Tanner is pretty darn good and he has been to a lot of big match tourneys. I am betting he did just what they say he did.
