I was just wondering what people thought of some of the places state tournaments have been at in the past. I always thought Abilene was one (twice) of the best state tournaments I have been to. When I was in Abilene a few years ago for a regional, i couldn't believe the place was as small as it was. It's kind of funny how you remember things. I also remember the El Dorado tournament as really nice. One of the worst experiences I had was in 77. There was total chaos all night long at the motel, not wrestlers but the local crowd, drugs, alcohol, the works.

Your experience sounds a lot like the motel at the 1977 State tournament I was at — of course mine was better because it was in IOWA (lol)!!!

Norton Community High School hosted the all-class state tournament one year, in our East Campus gym, which we now consider too small for even basketball games. People filled the floor around the mats, and there was barely even a path to walk through, it was one cramped mother.
