Colleges are needing big guys that can move. I watched a few at state this weekend that impressed the hell out of me. Hemmerling, Perry, Weishaar,Strait, Washington,Sponsel. Does anyone know if any of theses guys are going to wrestle in college?

I don't know any of the decsions that these or any other wrestlers have made, but I would like to see more Kansas wrestlers keeping it in the state. I know Ks doesnt have a D-1 program, But i think if all of the best wrestlers went to Fort Hays or a JUCO it would make a name for kansas wrestling as a whole.

Keep it in Kansas

I like Kansas too but if a guy has a chance to wrestle in the Big 12 or Fort Hays, common that is a no brainer don't you think. Kind of like eating a steak or opting for a hotdog and not one of those big fat hotdogs either.

Since moving down here from Iowa, I have always thought it was sad that we don't have more college wrestling in the state. There are 15 or so four-year schools offering wrestling up there, not to mention several top-notch jucos. There are a lot of kids down here that have the talent to go on to wrestle at at least the NAIA or NCAA D-III levels who never do because of lack of exposure to it in Kansas.
I hope the rumors about Baker are indeed true and that the other small colleges around the state will follow suit — it would be a great thing for those schools and for wrestlers across Kansas.

I am not trying to make wrestlers "sell themselves short" if that what you think. I just think that if kansas wrestling made a name for itself at all of the college levels it has to offer there might be a better chance for someone to think that adding a D 1 progam would be a good idea if the talent was that good enough.

Just my thoughts, i was just wondering what people thought about the subject. I just think that it is kinda sad when you hear about the succsess that UNK has at the D 2 level when the majority of the team is from kansas.

I might have opened a can of worms with this post, but tell me what ya think.

According to the latest list posted on my web site, as of Feb. 26, he has not signed with any Kansas JUCO. It's in the JUCO message base there if you want to look.

OCU in Oklahoma has also had success with Kansas kids including two All-Americans from Augusta just last year. Shawn Silvis, national champion, is in line to repeat this seson, and Chris Saferite, national runner up, is redshirting this year.

With recent wrestlers like B. Lashley, B. Maynes, B.Vest, Tremblay,Parks, Roberson, McCormick, Boyle, GAble, D. Bahm, Spalding....etc.As well as the young talent coming up a school like K- State would be well stocked with Kansas kids.

Oh yeah Silvis and Saferite, Plus the Taylor Brother, I'm not sure how Kenny is doing as of late but last I checked he was in the SEMI-finals of NAIA. He Beat another KS kid Darion Terry to get there 4-2. Hope he keeps rolling.

Just got back from Big 12 Tourney. Some notes on the tourney. Maines 1st, Roberson 3rd, Coleman 3rd, Klien 4th (but I think will get voted in at large), Spaulding 5th but lost the challenge match to returning NCAA Champ and beat last years finalist in the first round.

There were 34 Oklahoma wrestlers on rosters of big twelve teams, 16 Kansas, 14 Iowa, and 13 Missouri on the total rosters of all teams.

Kansas kids are doing well right now and as you can see are well represented on DI Rosters.

Yes, it would be nice if a school like Kansas State University could have a wrestling program. To be honest with you...i think they could be quite successful if they recruited the right kids! K-State having a program will only help the state of kansas because so many kids wrestle nowadays.

I think it is extremely evident that there is a need for more programs in Kansas. I know they are working on changing title 9, I'm not an expert on the topic, but I'm sure that would help college wrestling. When I was at Missouri Valley, we had BobbyLashley,ScottTremblay,Randy Roark,Beau Vest,
Wes Walker,Jeff Showalter,John White,Jeremy Biddle
James Morgan.. They were back to back National Champions and are still in the top two or three every year with great wrestlers from Kansas. Most of Valley's lineup consists of Kansas Talent.. Same as Nebraska Kearney and some of the great Jucos in Kansas. Top rate programs who get our wrestlers because of lack of options.

i think one of the big reasons k-state doesnt have wrestling nemore is because of title IX. it is sad because title IX defeats its own purpose, and correct me if im wrong, but i think this is one of the main reasons.
