Terrell and Hancock's injuries are the primary reason there shouldn't be such a thing a league tournament. This is the week before regionals. Anyone who has ever wrestled knows that the week prior to regional competition is all about preparation. How good can someone prepare if they have to work around an injury or can't work at all due to injury. There is absolutely no reason to schedule the league tournament at the time that it is. Chisholm Trail league officals need to pull their heads out of their...you get the picture... and reevalute the timing of these tournaments. If these wrestlers aren't able to participate in next week's regional tournaments, I really hope league officials are happy with themselves.

maximus, It appears there are a lot of league tournaments going on this weekend around the state so the CTL isn't the only one doing it. Injuries can/do happen at any time, not just the last weekend before regionals. Our team lost a good wrestler for the season two weeks ago in a dual. Would it have made it any more of a loss if he had waited till the league tournament to get injured? If not this weekend then when for the league tournament? If there is a league tournament next year with the CTL/AVL merger it will be as tough as any invitational in the state. I can't wait to see it!

I'm sorry. I'm not saying that the league tournament isnt' a good idea, I didn't review my post like I should have. I really meant the timing wasn't a good idea. Wrestlers need time off before regionals so that the wrestling there is the best. Duals and tournaments throughout the season are more or less preparation for the big show. A good week and a half to two weeks is a great way to do that. It gives any unhealthy/injured wrestlers time to recover and wrestle their best. Anyone who has ever wrestled will tell you, it's not easy. It's hard, gruleing, tedious, and time-consuming work. It eventually starts to cause wears and tears and a break at the end of the season is just what's needed.

Should we also do away with the playoffs in football and basketball to avoid injuries to the participants?
It is most unfortunate, however injuries are part of LIFE, and may occur at any time.
My oldest son continued to participate last year with a serious rotator injury, incurred at the Augusta Invitational the first week of January. He did not qualify for state, losing at regionals in the consolation semifinals, and the experience has provided more determination this season.

I do not agree that "Most League Tournaments". Are held on the weekend before Regionals. Most of the Western Half of the state has moved their always tough League Tourn. to the end of Jan. I was not supportive of moving our MCL League tourn. at first but now I would not have it any other way. The weekend off before regionals has been a blessing for my team over the past 8-10 years since the change.

The two injuries in question i dont believe are serious, terrel hurt his knee in the semis but was able to finish the match so that leads me to believe he will be fine for regionals, and hancock's injury from my point of view was the sight of kyle davis.

Skelly,
You might want to rethink your point of view. Brandon has had an ongoing injury for the past two weeks. It was MY decision to sit him out of the finals. He has inflamed bursae sac (sp?). We were given a couple of options. Sit out or get a cortizone shot. Brandon wanted to help our team score team points. Because of Kyle's very physical style, I didn't want to risk more severe injury to the elbow. Don't act like Brandon is the coward when you are not courageous enough to post a name with your allegations. And if you had such a problem with my decision, why didn't you ask me about it at the tournament. I'm not too hard to spot.

What does everyone think about Ashpole's and Brand's match in the finals?

With maybe one seconds remaining in the 2nd period Brand escaped from bottom making the score 4-6 putting Brand in the lead, but for some reason, the officials decided to take that escape point away even though it was cleary an escape before the time ran out. Chaning the score back to 4-5 Then I think Ashpole chose bottom, and reversed Brand(6-5). According to the KSHSAA rule book it says that for a reversal all you have to do is get back behind the opponent and that is exactly what Brand did so according to the rule book he should have been awarded a reversal, but the officials only gave him points for an escape. Then they finished off the match final score being 6-5 Ashpole, then they raised Ashpole's hand and both wrestlers left the mat. THen after a minute or two of discusing the matter both wrestlers were called back to the mat, because the refs decided it was a reversal. They went into over time and Brand ended up taking down Asghpole and winning.

What are the extent of Terrell's and Hancock's injuries? Hope they're both able to go by regionals. Also, wanted to comment on the Wichita Eagle article on the upset of the night being Freeman losing to Cillessen. I don't think there's any shame in that. Sean's placed 2 year's at state and is definitely no slouch. Maybe Freeman had a bad night?

Fortunately for Andy Brand, the Andale coaching staff was paying attention and had the error corrected.
Does anyone remember who the mat officials for that match were?

That's amazing. I've NEVER seen a ref's ruling be changed like that.

The ref's were terrible. The Brand/ Ashpole match wasn't the only one with a call change. The 145 finals also had one good call changed to a ridiculous one. With the score tied up 5-5 with maybe 10 seconds left Fiene of VC shot in a on Harris of MZ and nearly completed the shot on the edge of the mat. Harris wasn't quite onto his but yet and Fiene hadn't brought his hands up around his waist for a body lock which usually signals that its a clear takedown. The ref brought them to the middle to go to OT but the one ref talked to another and after a minute or so they signalled that Fiene got the two points. BULLLLLLL!!!!!!

You won't have to worry about a league tournament before regionals for the newly formed Ark Valley Chisolm Trail league. It's all duals, single duals. And the league officials would be the individual schools activities directors. FYI

The officials were the same two for the Ashpole/Brand match as for the Fiene/Harris match. Those were two badly officiated matches. One of them was a really old dude, they say he has been reffing since the 60's. The other one, I see him quite often but I do not recall his name.
