When I posted about Kreigbaum-Gardner I almost looked to see for sure if Kreigbaum was a jr or sr, but then I figured I had been following Kreigbaum as a fan for so long he just had to be a senior. I am also a Gardner fan and would pick him to win.

Is Kriegbam a senior? If so, that would be a match at the Senior Classic worth the drive in itself.

I want to see Beau Tillman vs. Jeremy Long - again. I was watching the first time when Tillman was owning Long, I turned my back for like 10 seconds, I heard a loud smack, the entire crowd ooohs and awwws I turn around and there is Tillman on his back being pinned in a classic Long headlock. Its too bad this match will never happen again.

Are you kidding me Salyer....
Roberson would not defeat Maynes by fall! They are 2 very good wrestlers who would not make very many mistakes. Maynes was known for not being taken down and you really believe that he would get pinned....I don't know about that one buddy.

I really don't think a kid who has never been taken down in kansas and was undefeated through high school would be pinned, except in a fluke. Roberson beat Spaulding by 1 point at Derby. It's not like it was a killing or anything. While I would say Roberson has better technique, Maynes is still tough. I would give it to Roberson 3-2, but it could go either way. My dream matches, however would be Dyer against Joe Nelson, the all-american from South. These are arguebly the two toughest big men out of Kansas recently, possibly ever. It would be a great match. What about dream team matches?

Justin Dyer Vs. Melvin Douglas. Carroll/Bork/Hemmerling/Seiler/Page/Staab in a round robin would be awesome.

Why in the world would you want Bork in that group. Heck there are a whole lot of 189's and 215's that would be a lot better matches than certainly Bork or a lot of guys on that list. Bork lost to nearly every decent big guy in the state. The only reason he won all that stuff in the summer is that very few of the big men in the state wrestle in the summer. Most are conditioning for football or working. He gets a lot more credit than he ever really deserved. If he ever wins more than he loses in college it will be big news.

Maynes and Roberson were not in Ware's class. Ware was amazing. Will not forget his finals match in the Big 8 tourney with the national champ from Okie State. He took him down and gave him a heck of a match and shut up a lot of Oklahoma people that day. He was a lot more athlete than either of those guys and was a lot better on his feet offensively. That isn't really a matchup just two really different classes of wrestler there.

Was Bork a good wrestler? Sure. Did he make me squeal like a girl when I was a junior? Indeed. Did he beat Carrol? Mhmm. Was he the best wrestler ever? Come on, he never even won state. (That's what this topic is.)
Boyle = best wrestler ever. EVER. Easy. 2nd best wrestler ever....Philbert.

I wrestled both Roberson and Mayes... I beat Zach when we were little..back in '87, but he's grown in to a World Class Wrestler since then..I had never beat Bo..But, I did wrestle with Zach in practice in '95 and in a few High School Tournaments in '96 and he pinned me Olate North Finals, but Bo pinned me in the State Semi-Finals in '95
I'd have to say Bo would beat Zach by a score of 4-2, and then Zach would beat Bo in the Rematch 3-2.

Bork was a good wrestler but list some of the guys that beat him in his career, Frandin from Junction City, lots of others. They were all pretty good kids but come on be real. Lots of people go to Stanford but it is for brains and not the wrestling program. They beat no one of any substance.....ever.

The academic standards of Ivy league schools and others such as Stanford eliminate a lot of the kids that wrestle from consideration. Bork, Polley, Gardner, and Metzler of Omaha, all were and are excellent students. I think it is the ultimate compliment for a student/wrestler to be on scholarship to one of the elite universities and a great compliment to those kids and their programs.

So Westphal, are you trying to say that Tanner, Ian, and Scott just used wrestling to get into Stanford? I can assure you that this is not the case as all are extremely smart kids and could have gotten into Stanford regardless if they were going to be student athletes or not. I cant speak for these guys, but I would assume that they chose Stanford becuase they WANTED to continue wrestling and also wanted a top class education at the same time.
