I know Beloit in the 1981, 82, and like 83 they had 7 or 8 guys in the finals. And won 6 of them.

The best team ever is Ark City 1992: 203 Team Points (which I believe is the state record). Several other Ark City teams during their dynasty could make a claim for this title as well.

Without a doubt! They were awesome, they had kids that couldn't make the varsity line up that would come out next year to go undefeated and win state.

I'd be a bit prejudiced but, the 1999 Goddard 5A team was very strong - undefeated that year, ranked in the top 20 in the nation, all 13 members qualified for state, 12 of em' with over 25 wins and one (Lien, a state champion) had 21 because he missed half of the year with knee surgery. They had three state champions and ended Ark City's 11 year reign (longest winning streak of HS state championships in the nation's history - regardless of the sport!).

Wichita West 2001. They dominated every meet they went to with an incomplete team. They had 3 state champs and 3 2nd places. Not bad for qualifying 7 guys. Also they were one of the most fun teams to watch. They would try moves no one else would and you could see they really loved wrestling. I do not understand why everyone hates WW.

that comes through the way that the kids program used to act, wrestling is a good example of being able to respect you, your coaches, your opponent, the official and the sport as a whole. WWWC used to be really really cocky, I think that is what started it all.

Hey Les,
Goddard was not undefeated that year. They lost at the Bishop Carrol Tournament to a stronger team, Great Bend. That year Great Bend was struck with some bad luck right before rgionals. They lost their 145lber to a suspension at school and lost their 152lber to a dislocated shoulder. Both of these guys were ranked in the top 4 (yes rankings don't mean much). Goddard was a good team. Goddard beat Great Bend in two of their finals matches (171 and 160). Great Bend had 2 others in the finals that year(Champion--Schridde and runner-up Maciel). Oh yeah, they had a couple Schwartz boys wrestling on the backside. If they were full strength, they would have been 1st that year.

Ohh and one more thing Les. That team could not have beat Beloit in the early 80's or many of the Ark City teams.

I think everyone hated West because they were disrespectful. But what is disrespectful to many old guys, they might have just thought was fun. I think they often took it over the line, but I kind of liked some of it. They were like the Detroit Pistons of Kansas wrestling.

Early 70's Hoxie wrestling was awesome, and the 99' state team of Hoxie was crazy dominate. They only lossed to Goodland in a dual, but they had some varsity members sick or injured.

Kyle Dub I saw Hoxie's 70's teams. Had 2 State Champion first one was very good. The 2nd was not only 1 state champion.
St. Francis 1979 team qualified 11 of 12 for state. 10 of the 11 place in the top 4. Sainty also won 6 in a row in the 60's.

I know when i was at the beloit tourney i saw banners spanning over 7 or 8 years for champions or runner up so i think in the late 70s or early 80s they were pretty dominant

Big Green I'm staring at the shirt right now.....and I'm afraid your wrong. In 1970 Hoxie placed 5, 1 state champ. 71' placed 9, 5 state champs. 72' placed 9 again, but only 1 state champ. 73' placed 7 and 4 state champs. Of those years.....if you were there, you should remember the names Rumback, Lewis, Miller, Roger and Rex Mauck, Steve and John Pope, Ron and Tom Campbell, Mike Scott, Andy Prickett....this list goes on and on of outstanding wrestlers.

St.Francis would have to get a blanket to have enough room to put all there state champs and state placers on

Emporia 2000...Dusty Spaulding, Chad Everett, and the Malone brothers all in the finals and they also had 3 guys place 3rd, and 3 others place either 4th, 5th, or 6th.

Not sure I want to comment on what team is the best, but you can bet it was coached by Wayne Jackson. This one would be hard to top however.
1989: Justin Ware, 1st-103; Chad Beeson, 1st-140; Jerame Hernandez, 1st-145; Chris Hernandez, 1st-152; Jeff Cook, 2nd-160; Chris Calder, 2nd-171; Robert Mason, 1st-189
Here is that team which holds the point record. 1992: Brooks Travis, 1st-112; Allen Hankins, 1st-119; Scott Goodale, 1st-125; Chad Somers, 5th-130; Justin Ware, 1st-140; Dustin Bahm, 2nd-145; Jevon Gearhardt, 3rd-152; Chad Moore, 3rd-171; David Schneider, 2nd-189

I Got this from NATIONAL WRESTLING COACHES ASSOCIATION They are still ranked eleventh in the High School Scholastic Dynasty Teams of the Last Decade 11. Arkansas City High School - Arkansas City, KS - Coach Greg Buckbee - Arkansas City High School won 9 state titles in last 10 years - dual record of 130-7 since 1991 - 5-3 last year - Won 17 state tournaments - won 11 consecutive state titles - In the 1990 their dual record was 117-4 - 53 dual meet win streak from 1993 to 1999. THATS PRETTY STRONG!!!!
