Bahe had been out through the early part of the season with an injury and looked a little rusty. But Baker was very impressive in earning the win.
Bahe scored the opening takedown, but Baker countered and probably should have been awarded a defensive fall before he got the reversal and back points. Led 5-2 at that point. Extended to 8-2 before giving up a reversal late in the 3rd period. Was able to get the reversal back in the closing seconds of the period to close out with a 10-4 win.
Baker and Ortiz was a tight match. Baker nearly scored a takedown as the first period came to a close - he was in position just as the clock expired and the official ruled no points. Scoreless second period on their feet, with a lot of action. Third period started on their feet. Ortiz scored on a slick takedown. Baker picked up an escape to make it 2-1. Ortiz held the lead well and wrestled on the edge of the mat to protect himself the remainder of the third period - showed good mat awareness during Baker's attacks. Baker had several good attempts and even forced a stall call against Ortiz, but just couldn't get him down inside the circle before the final buzzer sounded the 2-1 victory for Ortiz.
Hoxie won the Ulysses dual 62-12.
