The local papers have written of a virus amongst the team (Bishop Lynch). With a less-than-full squad, they finished 9th in the recent Lone Star Duals, so they may not be at full strength. Have not heard if they are going to Newton, or not.
And, the fear of Prant being in attendance is a very well founded reason, as well. Texas is a little weak on spelling, I hear.

I misspoke earlier, as Bishop Lynch finished 7th at the Lone Star Duals.
1-Oviedo (Fla) 2-Durant (Fla) 3-Allen (TX) 4-Austin Bowie (TX) 5-Arlington (TX) 6-Tulsa Cascia Hall (OK) 7-Bishop Lynch (TX) 8-Lawton (OK)

I just got an e-mail from Coach Mathews of BL. He said they are not coming, but he did not give an explanation.

BREAKING NEWS:
In response to the fear that Prant Garker's appearance at the Newton Tournament of Champions would spawn an improvised spelling bee, Bishop Lynch has decided to withdraw from competition.
However, much to the world wrestling community's dismay (delight?), Prant will not be in attendance at Newton. He is trapped on Long Island until May, where he will reside until his Prantuation.
Sorry to disappoint.
Win it, Hat Town.

With Bishop Lynch out of the mix, will a team be able to enter Newton if they had a missed tournament earlier in the year do to weather? This should still be a tough tourney regardless.

It is too bad they are not coming as I was looking forward to seeing them again (we saw them last year at the Lone Star Duals). The good news is that there is still plenty of tough competition at Newton and we are still excited to be in this tourney.

Keep in mind Perry, OK is still coming and is a tough team to boot so Kansas guys will see some out of state flare in there.

perry is not very good they will place in the top ten but they won't have a shot at the title, both bishop carrol and ark city beat them at perry tournment.

Derby and Bishop Carrol placed thrd and fourth at the Derby tourny, so those two and Norton should all be in the top five. To bad Goddard wont be there then most of the best teams in the state in all classes would be represented.

Coaches/Wrestlers, I am sorry that our team is unable to attend the TOC. We have attended the Derby in the past, and recently the Ark City meet. To wrestle at the TOC would of been great. However, in guess you do not know some history,...I recently came off active duty from the US Army after 22 months of being away from home, family and work. Being a Fireman, my department has sent me to a refresher course of Paramedic school. (Cannot miss a day!) Also, Coach Liston is was planning on coming up that Friday evening and Coach Monday was unable due to his Team Monday travels. Therefore, a Coach would not be able to travel seven hours to Newton to be with the team. We have some great parents that I trust in the corner, but school policy requires a Coach to travel to and from any meet. The news from the Fire Dept. just came up. Therefore, we had to find a close local meet and not travel to Kansas. (Hence, I wrestled from Labette in the day under Jody T...and it would of been a "home coming" for me. I enjoy the KS wrestling. Anyhow, take care and perhaps might find you guys down here in Dallas? FYI...Lone Star was tough...my 171 broke his neck, and Heavyweight last minute dropped the from the team. v/r, Tim Mathews Bishop Lynch Head Coach

That's a big disappointment about Bishop Lynch not coming. Who was their 171-pounder?

I read in the Dallas Morning News last week that surgery on the young man's neck was successful, and Bishop Lynch's team, dedicating their last tournament to him , made a great come-from-behind surge to win it. That's class.
