Luke Metzler was a three (3) timer. Luke was in the 103 lb. weight class in 1999 when Hoover won his first title.

Ok this topic is about as pointless as the other ones we've had where there is absolutly no way to compare these wrestlers. But I'll play along. I just don't see how ANYONE could be considered better than Bo Maynes in kansas. I know a few people say Roy Oester. But 75% of the people on this forum probably aren't even aware of who he is. That not withstanding. Bo was undefeated and was NEVER takendown in his career. A stat im pretty sure Roy could not claim. Coming in a close second would be Zach Roberson who's pure technique would have made a match between him and Bo awsome. There are so many other accomplishments of Bo's but we won't get into that. I jsut think Bo would win all things being equal.

Didn't forget Maynes...still curious as to if Abilene was trying to get him on staff though.
Did Oeser win Grand State both years too?

Oeser only won one (1) Grand State Championship, in 1976.
Oeser is the only Kansas Wrestler with five (5) State Championships!

Richard, You are a weath of knowledge and I enjoyed talking to ya this weekend. You have kept alot of us informed! I know he is not a 4 timer but Melvin Douglas does not get enough credit for his accomplishments. I would pick him although I was fortunate to see him and Eric Koehler from Nemaha Valley wrestle at Grand State. Best high school match i ever witnessed.

I don't thinks so, if I rememeber right he came one match away a couple times. He was always ranked fairly high and was an outstanding wrestler.

All the 4 timers will have to go a long way to even approach the greatsest wrestler that Kansas ever produced: Myron Roderick. He was a THREE TIME NCAA CHAMPION, an olympic medalist, coached the 1972 olympic team, coached OSU to somewhere around 14 national titles, establishing them as a dynasty in the process. Further, He has given more back to the sport that any of the other wrestlers mentioned, in helping to create the usa wrestling system that gives us the oppurtunity to wrestle cadet freestyle/greco that we have today, was one of the first to realize the benefit to college wrestling programs and high school wrestlers of the summer camp concept, creating the OSU camps that John Smith runs now, giving thousands of high school wrestlers the guidance and instruction that would improve many of them, Until his recent stroke was the president of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater. No one else on this list has even won one NCAA title, or been responsible for one individual or team NCAA championship, or olympic team championship, as a head coach. Even if you give these guys the 50 years that Myron gave to this sport, I doubt if they would compare. And one more thing-- he was from SOUTHEAST KANSAS!!!!

Sammy96,
Bo had a lot of the injury bug throughout his career like quiet a few guys at OU have endured. He managed to qualify only once I thought...maybe twice, but in either way, he is a champion on and off the mat. Didn't All American, but came close.

I would have to go with Zach Roberson over Bo Maynes...for the simple fact that Roberson has been an All-American and is in the running for a National Championship this year in college....its a tough argument because you have older gentlemen on here who actually know who anyone is before Bo Maynes and us younger kids don't. Its like comaparing Dr.J to Micheal Jordon...it depends how old you are!!!

Bo wrestled his last match at state with his entire leg wrapped up it looked like......... well imagine wrapping your comforter around you whole leg then taping it all up.
He was the most humble person i have ever met.
I have never met roberson he is not too much younger than Bo i think 3 years.
Bo was never taken down i do not know if Zach was or not. That is very impressive

If we're going by accomplishments and ability straight out of high school, I say Oeser for fatties (just because I've heard he was a ma-ohn) and Roberson for the wee ones. Maynes was sweet and I saw him at his peak, but Roberson's record is just too impressive.
Boyle, while not a 4xer, crushes all.
Prant, while a 0xer, crushes Boyle.

... and by that un-disputable logic ... Prant is crowned, King of Kansas Wrestling!
All hail the King!!! Hip-hip-hooray, hip-hip-hooray, hip-hip-hooray!
Is this the place where we are supposed to wash the feet of King Prant?
P.S. If I may, your respected and utmost highness, (almost silently uttered) you had a bit of a spelling error in your closing. And, I beg of you a thousand pardons for pointing that out. Please, I implore you, to have mercy on my two-cent soul!

Sweazy while a non qualifier...shouts "Get your Popcorn, Peanuts, Crackerjacks" While Prant and Boyle go at it.

you are crazy if you think Doug Hoover is the best 4x state champ of all time. He's a good wrestler, but he didn't overwhelm the competition like Boe Maynes or Zach Roberson.
No doubt about it, Zach Roberson is the all-time greatest Kansan: Heck, he is a NCAA champion.
Doug Hoover isn't even the best KMC 4x state champion: that honor belongs to Roy Oeser.
