To: Coach Leudke:
Did Samuelson win?? To use some of your quotes “one of the finest wrestlers I have ever coached”
“on a mission” “work ethic” “honor to coach him” – What do you think Samuelson’s coach thinks about young Samuelson?? Me thinks Samuelson was better on that particular day – All your rhetoric makes it sound like excuses for a kid that lost.
PS: alot is two words - "a lot" or it was when I took English

Intelligence goes a long way in wrestling. Barry definitely showed he was a smart kid in the match between Carlson and Samuelson. I think Dalefish is questioning the intellingence of the guy in the corner.

Andy Tieben (Fr.), Dodge City, beats Jessie West(Jr. 2x State Champ), Emporia with a takedown in the last 8 seconds in the match.
West beat Tieben at the Newton tourney by a tech-fall or something close.

I was not trying to make excuses. Bary is a great kid. I just did not want anyone to try to take away from Jeff's accomplishments. He lost and that happens. I do not think that I deserved the comment of questioning my intellect.

By far, the biggest "where the heck did this guy come from" award goes to Laurice Reagans from Wichita Southeast in '99.

Laurice beat four guys that he had never beat. Starting with a guy from Lawrence the first round (a state placer from two years prior), Branden Calvin (state champ from the year before), a kid from K.C Harmon that was a multiple state placer, and Leavenworth's Shawn Bunch in the finals.

Of course, I'm partial to Laurice because I coached him and still keep in contact today.

Man what an awesome story! Is he still involved with wrestling?

What was his score in the final against Bunch?

I stand corrected, it was james I can't believe I wrote shawn. James was pretty tough though and is at Lindenwood in St. Louis.

He isn't wrestling anymore, but is at KU pursuing a engineering degree. Those that know Reagans know what a class act he was. I think the score of the match was 8-3.

Prater is a solid wrestler but he better think about getting by Marcus Bowman before he sets his mind on Jones!!!

Did everyone forget that matt gilliand beat jb harding in the finals two years ago. Keeping harding from being a 3 time state champion.

One of my wrestlers was involved in two big upsets in the 1990 4A state tournament. Matt Ford defeated one of the Roarks from Columbus in the semi's and it turned out to be Roark's only loss in his career at the state tournament. He was eventually a 3x champ. Then in the finals he upset Howell from Wellington, a wrestler who had pinned him earlier in the Beloit Inv. Ironically, Matt only took third in our league that year. It just proves that anything can happen when the state tourney rolls around.

One of the biggest upsets I have ever heard of is Kendal Hahn from Norton beating a Gno (pronounced "no") from Concordia. They were both seniors and Gno had never lost a match. Kendall beat him at regionals (I heard that match on the radio) and then again the next week at state.

First of all it's Chris Ngo, and secondly, he wasn't one defeated by Kendall Hahn, it was Jon Dong. Both Ngo and Dong were 3X state champs.

Addendum: I left out a "the" in there, my apologies. I'm an English teacher and there's no excuse for it. Also, Ngo was a freshman when he lost his only match to Travis Phippen from Sante Fe Trail (no slouch). Jon Dong was a junior when he lost to Hahn.

Thanks for the History refresher. I was a little fuzzy on my facts. Thanks
