I agree that Goodland has the toughest regional in the state. Every team has earned their respect.

Goodland has themselves (ranked #2), abilene (ranked #5), andale, chaparral, clay center (ranked #1), colby (ranked #6), concordia (ranked #3), haven, hugoton, larned, smokey valley, nickerson, pratt, scott city (ranked #10), and ulysses. By far the toughest regional in 4a and probably in all classes.

Good call Bigkneepads! Goodland will host probably the toughest regionals in the world. It will be interesting to see how the teams and invidual wrestlers come out.

Goodland is a monster! I know they are just rankings but check out 125 at Goodland #1 Mainus-Colby #2 Prater-Pratt #4 Close - Clay Center #5 McKinney- Scott City #6 Geske- Abilene. One of these guys won't even be going to state. I also notice that 9 of 14 #1 ranked guys are in Goodland. If a team out of this regional brings 8 or 9 guys to state that team should win.

I guess I don't understand why the KSHSAA did this again. The last few years I thought they have done a good job of separating some of the better 4A teams. Maybe it is because they added one new 4A school. I don't know, but it will be like many of you have said some good wrestlers will get left at home.

a regional like that is ridicious. in 6A its 8 teams or so. That keeps it fair and makes sure that at least for the most part a region wont get really really stacked. why would they put 14 in one regional, especially teams as good as they r at goodland. that is just asking to screw good wrestlers over out of state. Whoever decides this needs to actually think before making a regional as difficult as that one.

they put 16 teams in regionals for a reason. There are so many teams in 4A and on down and less in 5 and 6A. It's about the numbers. The questions are where to put those teams. It would be impossible to have 8-team regionals unless there were 8 or 9 classes. Don't go around calling people names until you get the facts. Regionals for those teams is like the first rounds of 5 and 6A state. That is why teams from 4A argue seeds for guys against 5 and 6A state qualifiers because it unfair to rank someone in a tournament just becasue they qualified for state, when sometimes those kids at 4A who didn't make state could have in a 5 or 6A regional.

The schools keep getting smaller out west. The regional takes in west clear down to chapparal and up to Clay Center. It is an awful big territory. Even though Abilene, Clay Center, and Concordia are pretty much east they do fit where they are. The states only other option would have been to put more Wichita area schools out west and leave the NCKL schools where they were.

Are there any Wichita competing in 4A wrestling right now? Not positive, but I don't think so. And Pratt Nickerson, Andale, Larned ..... already go west.
Simple geography is that it takes all of western/central Kansas to field a 16 team tournament in the 4A ranks.
Colby & Goodland went to Larned last year and I think Pratt not too long ago, just not a lot of options but to travel when you are out this way.
