Chapman might be the hardest 4a, but it's the easiest to get to for me...only a long 100 yards or so.

I dont know that you can say that the Chapman regional is harder than the Russell there about the same. And the oberlin regional is extremly tuff. i guarntee their is more than one kid and the oberlin regional that wont go to state that would have been the in finals at any other 3a regional.

I would agree that some kids may have qualified if they were in a different regional, but last year I broke it down, and there was no case of one regional medaling all 4 qualifiers at the state tournament.

Break it down this way-total number of medalists from each regional. Somebody did do it this way last year and in 3-2-1A the NW regional had a ton more medals than any other regional. That is the way it has been forever and it will be this year too. Most of the top teams will be at the Oberlin regional (Norton, St. Francis, Oakley, Oberlin etc.) and they will have good wrestlers knocking each other out. At some other regionals if a kid is just half-way decent they have a cakewalk into the finals.

Big Daddy - I agree that some regions are harder to qualify than others. Last year the discussion came around to how there should be more qualifiers from the more difficult regions, and that is when I figured out that no region actually medaled all 4 qualifiers in any given weight class. Actually, the breakdown of medals by regional location went to Beloit (25), Onaga (17), Fredonia (13), and Wakeeny (29). Don't know that I would classify 4 medals as "a ton". Nobody is arguing that the Northwest part of the state is tough (I grew up there!), but it always sounds like the goal is just to get a regional medal.

Excellent work and I will agree that 4 medals is not a "ton". I stand humbly corrected. I do know that two or three years ago (ancient history?) the split was just ridiculous. When it is all said and done the NW regional is always the toughest. Some of those eastern schools will qualify 8 or 9 wrestlers only to have them knocked out fast at thr "NW Kansas get together".

In regards to the Trego Regional qualifiers from 2005:

Of the 29 medals won, 20 were for placing in the top 4.

While it is true there were no weight classes where all four qualifiers from the Trego Regional medaled at State, 7 (50%) of the weight classes thad three medalists from the Trego Regional.

How about the Ark City regional in 5A. 4 of the Top 7 teams in the State, and almost every weight class with at least 2 of the top 5 in the State and some with 3 or 4. Looks pretty tough to me.

it's pretty tough to place all four of a regionals medalists. My son took 5th at state one year. He lost two matches at state, both to wrestlers from his own regional.(the NW 321a) They tend to knock each other out of the tourney.
