I was just wondering when was the last time the team rankings were updated? I know at this point in the year they are basically worthless but they are fun to look at. My question stems from the fact that St. Francis #2 has been defeated by Oberlin #4. Also I believe that Oakley #7 has finished ahead of Hoxie #5. I may be wrong on these and if so please disregard. If not seems rankings may need to be updated. Thanks for any help and info.

I will update this week. Understand that beating a team in a small tournament really has little bearing on how a team will do in a huge tourney such as state. Or beating a team in a dual really has little bearing also. Take Hoxie for instance: They have been beat in tourneys and duals. But when they get to state they will might have 3 finalists, which will score about 70 points, which would have placed you 6th in the state tourney last year. Where as a team with 7 good kids that score 2 wins at state each will only score about 25 points. Hope that helps.

And remember to be nice to the ranker dude! I'll be nice to the ranker dude, with one suggestion however! In my opinion, HILLSBORO should be in the Top 20 somewhere. Hillsboro finished 2nd to #11 Garden Plain at the Hesston tournament and #15 Halstead finished 4th there! Also, #16 Hoisington got beat by Hillsboro in a dual this year: Hillsboro 72, Hoisington 6 In the Herington Tournament, Hillsboro was 4th behind 3 teams all from 4a:(Abilene, CHapman, Wamego). They finished ahead of #17 Onaga by 13.5 points for that 4th spot. Hillsboro also went on to a 4th place finish at this week's Halstead Invitational. behind 4a's Douglass, #9 Lyons, and #11 Garden Plain. Halstead was 11th at that tournament! When the next rankings come out....HILLSBORO TOP 20!

Thanks coach. I can't say as I agree with everything either but you do a great job. I am glad you are doing it and not me. No matter what you do you will not please everyone. Also thanks to the Swayz as he has opened my eyes to Hillsboro, I will keep my eyes out for them. As we all know the only ranking that reallymatters is the one at the end of the state tournament.

Swayz, Thanks for the props. Just to clarify a couple things though. The dual score against Hoisington is correct (72-6), but they did not bring a full squad to the dual. They split their squad between our dual and one against Russell scheduled the same night. On the positive side of things for us, our 145 lber that made the finals at Herington did not get to wrestling the 2nd day at Halstead. He was in the semis after Friday night and woke up with the flu on Saturday. Not saying he would have walked through the Saturday sessions, as 145 was pretty solid with Hazard (Lyons), Paterson (GP), and others, but he probably would have picked up a fair share of team points for us. A final thought on where we might stand is that our 140 lber that has made the finals of two tournaments (Hesston and Halstead) will be split from us at Regionals and State as he is with us through a coop with Goessel.
Our kids are working hard and wrestling pretty well, but we still have a ways to go. I have been around the 321A State tournament for alot of years and know how difficult things get out there. I am confident our kids are getting prepared for the challenge, but we have to prove ourselves to be worthy of any recognition.

Thank you for the rankings and thank you for being willing to volunteer as the "Ranker Dude". Rankings are subjective and you do a good job trying to keep them fact based as much as possible. It's fun to enter into discussions about the rankings and lay foundation as to why "My Team" should be the higher ranked team. Bottom line is what happens on the mat at the big show will give us the true final rankings. With that said here are my (heart biased) top five... 1. Norton 2. Oberlin-Decatur County 3. Silver Lake 4. St. Francis 5. Hoxie

Breezy I really like your top 5 and those would be my picks. Still scratching my head over how Oberlin dropped a place from the previous rankings when (I think) they have won everything since that time. Oh well, it really does not matter and the true test will be in a few weeks.

I think Mr Lamar has done an outstanding job & I appreciate his time and effort. One note, I believe Steven Foster (Halstead) actually will wrestle for Sedgwick starting @ regionals. Also, I assume Thibault (Luke?) is finished for the year after breaking his arm @ Halstead's tourney. I don't know their team very well, but I think those 2 wrestlers would take almost all there possible points out @ state. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...
The first impression will be a lasting impression

Coach LaMar, I agree you do a great job and all of us in the wrestling community thank you. As I stated before these rankings mean little and if you ask 10 ppl. you will get 10 different opinions. Keep up the good work.
