I'm all for change but when the context of a match change due to a minor infraction such as the new shoelace rule one had to wonder what's wrestling goin to be like in a few years.
I understand the purpose of the rule but if a kid shoe is taped and his shoe lace still manage to come out is that worthy of a penalty point? I think the whole thing was made an issue when kids would intentally lossen or untie their shoes in order to get a break. Now we have coaches lookin and pointin out to the offical for things such as untied shoelaces etc. in order to get a free point (and I don't blame them for the tactic.)
I know as a coach it is my job to make sure the kids are prepared to wrestle but I also have 10 other kids to coach and in most cases I'm goin directly from one match to another and just before the match I want to give advise or motivation not worry about if a shoelace may come out during the match.
Just wanted to see how others feel about this topic.

I think some judgememt needs to be used and in cases I have seen it has. If a wrestler goes on the mat without tape on then give the penalty point. If the string comes out of the tape, I don't think it should be a penalty but I also wouldn't stop the match. If the kid trips over it then it is his fault for not taping it properly.

I would have to agree with you that we have thought up some silly rules in our sport. I really wanted to thank Coach Bahe from Goodland for his unselfishness last weekend at Regionals. After Bedore pinned his opponent for 1st, Goodland trailed Colby by 1 point with no wrestlers left. Brent Deibert, Colby's HWT, was approaching the score's table to check in without one of his shoes taped. Coach Bahe yelled at Coach Higley to grab Deibert, which he did, before he checked in. That was very classy.

the shoe string rule grew out of Les Gutches always stalling by tying his shoes in matches. Les was a great wrestler, but it was a major irritation for his opponents, coaches etc, when he would stop the match to tie his shoes. The intent of the rule is very well placed. a pain at times i do agree, but helps to prevent stalling.

I can understand when it's intentional but u get two cautions for fals starts u get a stalling warning the first time u stall... do enough people use this stalling tactic to merit the automatic penilty point???

might as well call stalling on wrestlers who start injury time to catch their breathe and how about calling stalling on wrestlers who notify the refs they are bleeding. The shoe string rule is a pain sometimes. Normally the guy who unties his shoe, bites his lip for blood time, and starts injury time for a little bruise is not very good anyways. Can't kansas get rid of the stupid shoe rule. It has good intentions but it punishes wrestlers for having a legit shoe string accident every once in awhile.

If you tape your shoes, they won't come undone. If they do, you either need to invest in some better tape, or learn to tape better. It's not hard.

I think this Travius guy should stop complaining and buy the mostt expensive tape possible and then use ducktape on top of that

In the incident I am talkin about one of my wrestlers had the score of a very close match turned due to someone pointing out to the ref that their was a shoelace violation... it was funny to me because it was so dumb and had nothin to do with wrestling itself it turned a tied match into losing. I'm not completely blaming the call because it was the correct call but is this what wrestling is all about.
Do I need to spend 15 minutes tapin up each of my wrestlers shoes to avoid this happening in the future??? The shoe was taped and after 3 matches it managed to come lose... I just don't believe this rules is necessary... if u have a kids that intentionally does it that's one thing.
I look at the technical violation for fleeing the match... I can count tons of times where kids dodge more or "play the edge" most of the time during a match they have to do this thing more than once or make it real intentional to be penialitized
Think about it

Personally, I think faking a cramp is the best way to catch your breath. It surely beats punching yourself in the nose to draw blood. Travius, keyword: GRAMMARCHECK
