There was a female wrestler at Santa Fe Trail a couple of years back...She competed around 103-112...Was pretty good and held her own...I might be mistaken, but she may have placed at Regionals one year...I think she may have had a chance to do some things had she not been injured...

I know this is not high school, but I saw a girl this weekend at the Ottawa kids tournament that will be in high school next year that kicked butt. She was from Burlington. WOW!! I saw her beat boys on points and by pins. If she can get a little stronger I think she could be one to watch.

Brooke Bogren wrestled at SFT and graduated last year... I know she qualified for state atleast once and I saw her put a lot of guys to shame on the mat. She did have some injuries that held her back the last couple years, not sure on the specifics of it

There have been quite a few good girls that wrestled in Kansas. One of which is Kelli Hinton from Andover. She now wrestles for the University of Minnesota-Morris, and is doing quite well in her college wrestling career. Along with Kelli was Keri Pemberton from Manhattan. She wrestled for one year at Neosho County and was a placer at the Women's University Nationals, and I think also at Women's Senior Nationals. There are several up and coming girls in HS. I am glad that this topic has arouse and am glad that the new team Kansas Krusaders for girls all the way through 18 yrs of age has been started.

Nothing big, but Brooke has had a little success in her girls wrestling career. She contributes this success to the support she has received by coachs, wrestlers, and other authorities in the Kansas wrestling community. Just to clear up somethings, she has been to the HS state wrestling tournament 2 times and placed second in regionals both of those times.

HELLO Wrestlers,
This is a subject that is dear to my heart I'm the head coach for the Kansas Krusaders girl wrestling team. We started this team to give the girls a fighting chance and to get recognition. Brooke Bogren has been one of the finest to come from this state but not the only. We have a team of around fifty girls from around the state that are up and coming.A couple to mention Tori Beltz from Rosehill, Chrisha Childers of Goddard, Tayler Fredricksen of Laken,& Haili Cornejo, Joseph Cornejo's little sister. They will all be a definet threat when they get older. Of course by that time we hope to have some girls teams in high school. To catch up with Texas,Hawaii, Montanna,Minnesota and,Pennsylvania. If I could only get you wrestlers to embrace the girls division we might have more interest in the sport as a whole. If at all possible i sure could use you guy's help because there is not enough knowledge about the girls team. So if you know a girl that wants to wrestle, but not boy's have her contact us at ksgirlwrestlers@ netscape.net or click on the girls division on the USAWKS home page. Our team wrestles from October thru August, ages 5 to 20 yrs old. We also wrestle all 3 styles of wrestling folkstyle, freestyle and greco for the younger girls. I hope that everyone can embrace us because we are representing Kansas too. By the way Kansas has 4 girls ranked nationally. We are having an all girls tournament on February 23,2003 the sunday after regionals from 11:00 Am to end. So if youknow any girls that want mat time have them get in touch with us.
Coach Ed Head Coach Kansas Krusaders

umm.. not to be mean but wrestling is a guys sport and should stay that way. i've wrestled a girl and won. no guy wants to wrestle a girl it's lose lose situation. if you win oh well you beat a girl and if you lose, well you just lost to a girl. if girls want to wrestle they should only wrestle girls. you don't see guys playing girls soccer.

two yrs ago at the sms tourney, kc washington had a girl wrestler at 112. She was pretty good and a mean looking wrestler. She injured the neck of a guy wrestler in the consolation finals. From what I remember she and the guy were going out of bounds and she threw him on awkwardly on his head. She was freaking merciless...i was impressed, no offense to the guy that got injured though.
With the power of Ra!

When I coached in Iowa, we had girls out for the team every year. None were real successful, but we had one that would have been in line for a varsity spot her senior year had she not tore up her knee in volleyball.
If a girl comes out with the understanding that in the room and in meets, she's not a girl, she's a wrestler. She will do the same things the guys do and will get no concessions for her gender. The ones who really want to wrestle do it.
As for the guys who are too chicken to wrestle them, grow-up; an opponent is an opponent. Shut up and wrestle.

I agree, i have no problem with girls wrestling in kids wrestling but if the want to wrestle in high school there should be a girls only team.

Kera Pemberton from Hat-town won a national championship while she was in high school. I believe her arch rival actually got pregnant and she didn't have to wrestle her at the tournament. To my knowledge, that hasn't happened to any guy wrestlers.
But as to the whole should-girls-wrestle question, I think they totally should. Kera was a bad mofo, and I saw her beat a lot of people. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have a few good looking people in the mat room. We wrestlers aren't the most attractive breed.

i only right this as a joke to what prant wrote i meant what i said earlier.

Chelsea Arnold from Marion isn't a that bad of a little wrestler, she placed at 103 at one of our tougher 2day tourneys this year at halstead. I watched her this weekend at our tourney, although she went up to 112 she still put up a good fight with some wrestlers.

As for whether girls should wrestle I'm totally supportive of it. The thought of all girls teams is great. When i wrestled on my guys team though, they accepted me and thought of me as a teamate, not a girl out on the mat. Pinner, you realize that they have guys soccer too though. So, there is not reason to play girls soccer. I hope some day you guys that think that gils should not wrestle change your mind. I know though that anything i say will not change your mind. I am not going to waste words trying to do that. Instead, I am going to say good luck to the girls that so wrestle. I would also like to mention one of the girls that paved the way for girls that wrestle, cheryl meyers. She is a great person. I hope you sometime see how I feel about this, and in the future support girls wrestling, whether it be against girls or guys. For those of you who don't want girls to wrestle... I think you should support the all girls team that was formed so girls will be able to wrestle against only girls. Childers is a good wrestler, I have watched her and would like to work with her someday, along with schriddle(sorry about the miss spelling). They are both big competitors in girls wrestling and are bound to place at girls high school nationals this year! good luck ladies!

That girl from Great Bend is Jenny Schridde. She is the only girl to win state in Kansas Kids. Many have placed and as high as second. She placed many times and won it once. Her brother, Mike, was state a champ in high school.
