Hey, I know that Wellington is having an old-timers tournament. Where are some of the other ones? Any information would be appreciated!

Osamatomie usually has one, and good ole Harry Lamar puts on a good one in Silver Lake.

Oh no- I promised myself never to speak the word of Old timer tournament and here you bring it up *L*.
Once when I was freshly outta high school I went to one. It was in Stillwater OK- oh my not a good decision as I soon found out that some of them guys are not so old and they come to better their hunting skills *L*. Even though I held my own I realize that I am to old to get hurt or be in pain for any length of time *L*. I believe the tournament was an open college tournament listed in the Old Timer *L* dern kids anywho

go to tournaments, click on calendar of events..
i must be crazy but i been thinking (i know thats a dangerous thought) but being in my 40s i wonder if i could still compete, i think i can, my last tournament was in '92 at the tennessee sports fest in memphis. i took the silver medal at heavy weight, weighing 191. (they wouldnt let me run 10 min to lose a pound to make 190.) even at that tournament while i was wrestling; in the middle of the second period it dawned on me; i remembered why i didnt miss it, mat shape was terrible! lungs on fire, arms aching, and 6 minutes turned into what seemed FOREVER!
After wrestling and winning 3 other matches, i lost in the finals to a 6'2" 250 dude from knoxville. down 3-2, with about 10 sec left, tried a desperation take down, losing 5-2, he was just too darn big and strong. he congratulated me, and said i gave him all he wanted, i didnt feel so bad when he told me he wrestled D-1 in college for minnesota.
perhaps its a midlife crises thing, but ive been riding the bike, doing a little running, lifting, working out with the h.s. team, and thinking, i wonder if i can still do it...? i havnt made up my mind yet...maybe i'll come to my senses, if its just for giggles in a relaxed atmosphere i just might show up, but if its a case of having to wrestle a 20 something active college wrestler, i may reconsider, i may be dumb, but i'm not crazy.
anyone thats been to one of these oldtimers before, what is it like? how many showed up? what kind of format was it? was a good time had by all?
God gave you a body that can take almost anything, its your mind you have to convince -vince lombardi

im living in wisconsen now but here they have many SOME ARE VERY COMPETATIVE and some are just alot of fun most go 3- 1 min periods with 30 sec rest between each aothers 1 1/2 min periods 30 sec rest and some are 2- 2min periods with 1 min rest round robin brackets 4 to a bracket most have two mats for wrestling and 1 mat to pass out on caled the strech warm up mat lol very few are in shape so get off the duff old guys and have some fun see some of the guys you compeated with back in the old days and laugh. also most tournys are separted by age 29 and under and 30 and over so you dont have to woop those wet behind the ears kids you rased. and most of the money goes to the kids clubs so its for somthing good .

I told my wrestlers that if seven of them entered the Sunflower State Games, then I would do it too. I lost the bet and had to enter the games. It was a lot of fun, but you are reminded real quickly what kind of shape you need to be in to wrestle. I remember that my hands and arms were cramped up for about two hours and i went to bed shortly after getting home. I was running quite a bit before hand to get my wind up, but i was reminded that there is a difference between being in shape and being in mat shape. The really sad part is that the matches were only 3 minutes each. Call me what you want, but in all honesty, a 6 minute match would have probably killed me.
But, I will do it again this summer, whether any of my kids do it or not. I have surgery to remove skin cancer from my face the week of state and then I'm out of activities for six weeks while my face heals, so hopefully i can "get my wind back up" for the Games.
By the way, if any of you old dudes are contemplating doing it, i say do it. It was fun. I will continue doing it until my body gives out. Maybe, if you're lucky, you could catch my lazy head in a head-lock too!

Harry vs. Barry, the Lamar showdown, who'd win? Who cares, with a title match with a name like that it'd be worth seeing lol....
