Why is it that on TV, wrestling is always two dudes facing off in a square mat, then a head throw, and the match is over? I've been sitting at home watching some "Saved By the Bell: The College Years" (job? no thanks.) and Slater just dominated some guy in about ten seconds. Has anyone seen any TV in which wrestling was portrayed accurately?
Which brings me to my second question: would Slater by a state champ in Kansas? And what weight class would he be in? I'm guessing 189.

If I had to put my money on any Saved By The Bell person to win state in high school I would bet everything on Screech at 112 lbs.

The best televised wrestling match ever was on pete and pete. The older pete wrestled paper cut, i believe. It was a high school wrestling match, but frog splashes were used effectively. I also enjoyed the use of face paint.

Pete and Pete is the one TV match I remember where they used a real wrestling mat.
However, in all my years of wrestling, I have never seen a guy use pliers to pull his tooth out in order to make weight...but then again, I haven't been around for that long. I'm sure Westfahl's probably seen it.

If i remember correctly the older pete wrestled "endless mike" not papercut in that famed match. Yeah i know, i really dont have much else to do except watch old reruns on satelite. Ive never seen anything as crazy as pulling teeth to make weight, but i did see a kid drink a bottle of epicac(vomit inducer) this year in order to lose 2 pounds. It worked, he was 1 under in the morning.

1) You are correct in your Endless Mike correction, sir. You are awarded 1000 points and a Pete and Pete state championship. I may be wrong, but I thought Papercut was Little Pete's enemy. (He's no Pitstain, but Little Pete does have a lot of enemies.)
2) Drinking anything to make you puke to make weight is stupid, and it makes me mad. It's stuff like that that gives people the right to claim wrestling is crazy. Totally bogus, and that guy should man up and lose the weight himself. If I was his coach, I wouldn't let him wrestle.

Sorry about my Pete & Pete ignorance. I now remember that paper cut was one of little pete's enemies, cuz i remember the episode where all of pete's friends pulled out like "atomic bomb" and "dune buggy" to beat paper cut in rock, paper, scissors. I also remember the orange lazarus, which sounds incredibly good on a hot day like this.

Mmmmm...... lazarus. Another great hollywood wrestling moment, Will Ferrel and his greco-roman wrestling in that fine piece of cinematic work known as The Ladies Man.

Excellent on the Ladies Man reference. I had forgotten all about that.
But on a sad sidenote- Even Stevens? Disney Channel? Come on, man. Have some respect for yourself.

To interject, Pete and Pete was on Nickelodeon, so let's not be hypocrites and judge those who watch Disney Channel, even though it does suck.

Are you comparing Nickelodeon to the Disney Channel? How dare you?!
Nickelodeon has brought us such wonderful shows as Pete and Pete, Ren & Stimpy, Hey Dude, Are You Afraid of the Dark, You Can't Do That on Television, and many more.
On the other hand, Disney has brought us all kinds of disposable television such as: Mary Kate/Ashley Olsen shows, the Mickey Mouse Club, and the Flying Nun mini-series.
Again, how dare you?!

even though it wasnt on a tv show i thaught the best wrestling match was when ellie may of wrestled the captain of the wrestling team in the beverly hillbillies movie. She used a move called the hickory nut crunch and i think it was called the opossum pretzel.

I never really watched saved by the bell but here is a bit of useless information. Mario Lopez who played AC Slater on SBTB. Was a real wrestler when he was in high school! In fact he placed 7th at the California State High school championships in 1991. I bet he was proud! Oh and hes are some more famous real wrestlers. Paul Rubens AKA Pee Wee Hermann was a 2X State Champion at Dade Country FL. Jay Leno, Robin Williams, Chris Farley, Mr. T ... All wrestlers in thier former days. And get this Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas' dad and Catherine Zeta-Jones father-in-law was a Division III National Champion. Boy some of these names surprised me but I did the research and it is all true.

Wasn't Brad Pitt either a Missouri state champion or runner-up?
