I don't know about your guys but the last time I checked my rule book does it say anywhere that a ref and a cpach can mae small talk during "clean up time"? Should the powers that be put a limit on clean up time as well? Had a cray blood match this weekend that the kid used all of hios blood time but the match actually to half an hour. There is no designated limit on clean up time....I do believe there should be.

It would be a little tough to limit cleanup when the coach is not always responsible for this. Most tournaments and duals usually have designated people to to do this such as a manager.

If I'm not mistaken There is a time limit for how long a wrestler can bleed before he has to forfeit. 5 minutes, I think. But yeah that is pretty lengthy for clean up.
Why? Because I choose to....

5 minutes to actually bleed but there is no limit on "clean up time". The kid wasn't actually bleeding for 30mins. he did lose the match by blood time though. I just think refs should expedite clean up time

Dear boach,
As im sure you quite aware of the 5 minute blood time rule, there is in fact no limit on clean up time. However it is within the referees discretion to determine if a stall tactic is being used during clean up time, in which case he may instruct the coach/medical personel to be more diligent in their work. The situation described above can be construed as unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of the coach, if for instance he was doing more coaching of his kid than trying to clean up the mess. In any case I don't believe that was the case here, and I imagine that had that been your kid bleeding you would have taken a different attitude much like the many coachs before you.

If you were mat side there was nothing to preclude you from assisting in an effort to expedite the cleanup. At the Southwest Classic in Liberal this past weekend, the two mat officials assisted the mat personnel and coaches in cleaning up the blood on a mat during the finals.

Nigel and Salyer.....I know that there is no limit to clean up time. I'm a coach remember. If it was my kid I would have hurried to clean my kid up and get him back on the mat. I wouldn't want the other kid to get break. Me and my fellow coaches thought the other kid may have been gassing and they were trying to slow the match down. Maybe we were wrong. But either way I guess it back fired on the kid, since he lost by blood time. I was just seeing what everyone thought about the rule in general. I wasn't asking for your personal opinion (Richard D Slayer and Nigel Isom) on my particular situation. But thanks anyway

I think the rule of no limit on clean-up time for blood is a good one. It may be possible that it could be abused for a tired wrestler, but the safety of the wrestlers must remain the number one concern. We MUST continue to make sure that the blood is completely cleaned up without concern for time because we must take every precaution to keep a disease such as HIV or Hep. from being spread in wrestling.

Not knocking you Boach, but I guess it's all up to the ref.
When I have clean up I try to get it done ASAP. I know there are some refs that aren't as worried about it. I, myself, do not get involved with clean up, since Rick Bowden has instructed the KWOA at our clinic to let the tournament personnel worry about that stuff and keep ourselves out of harms way.
So to answer you query: The official (head, if there's two) determines all of that. You have every right as the bleeder's coach or the opposing coach to say something if you think it's going too slow...
Hope it helped?
