"However, if I were a betting man, I would put money on Kansas placing higher at nationals."
Has Missouri placed higher than us at nationals in recent history? I don't recall seeing their state ahead of ours in recent years.

I don't understand the 123a comment, did anyone from 123a even compete in this event. I know 5a recorded the only wins?

Im sorry but the kids that Kansas took were not the best that Kansas had to offer and I thnk that pretty much says that the wrestling Talent THIS Year in the KC and surrounding area was not really up to par. But thats really not that big of news. Randy don't get to down in the dumps. I'm pretty sure our National tem will do way better than theirs.

I find something very interesting. Everyone seems to have the answers for why things 'went wrong on Tuesday night.' I would like to ask Mr. Hinderliter and Mr Peterman a question, since you two seem to be pointing the most fingers, what would you two have done differently? Were the wrong people picked to wrestle? Do you obtain the Midas touch when it comes to coaching? Please, tell us. We are all very interested to hear more of your opinions.

If reporting the facts, that we got our tails whooped, is pointing fingers, I believe that I am. What would I do differently? Remember … you asked!
The coaches of the team need to make a serious commitment. On the Monday following our return from State I would have a list of prospective team members in for a chat and workout and determine (perhaps through wrestle offs) those wrestlers that were equally committed. Then I would have a workout every night until the meet. Does this take some serious time and effort from coaches and wrestlers alike? Yes … commitment always does.
I know all the coaches on the team and some I know fairly well. I know that they wouldn’t shy away from the level of commitment that I’ve outlined. And I know most of the wrestlers. I know that wrestlers would like some “time off” following the State tourney. But those dedicating themselves to providing the best team, we had to offer, would have to make sacrifices.
A possibility is … that the absence of the East Kansas club during Folkstyle season had some bearing. Perhaps it even had some bearing on how some performed at the regional and state tourneys. In the past, it was common during the last few weeks of the high school season, to see wrestlers from several schools, at an East Kansas practice. “Steel sharpens Steel” is more than a catch phrase. Every matroom has battles. But when the best of each matroom come together, good things do happen. Granted, the East Kansas club lost “their coach” but someone needs to step up during the Folkstyle season.
And to Dean Wormer, you are fairly new to the Kansas Wrestling chat page, at least as a poster. So, I can’t quite figure out if your perhaps being a bit sarcastic in your questions. I’ve done several reports on the Metro and attended all but one of them. I have stated what I believe to be the facts and have stated my opinion on what we’ve done well and what we’ve done poor at. Some appreciate that level of honesty. I am sure that “all” do not agree.
If the Metro Classic is about showcasing “the BEST senior wrestlers in the Kansas City Metro area,” then it was clear to me that the best lived in Missouri this year. In the past, Kansas has “showcased” some great teams.
While I am not always the most graceful person in the world, I do try to avoid stomping on toes. But at times, it becomes difficult to walk without doing just that.
I am not Midas but I am a patriotic Kansan. It doesn’t matter to me if it is the Pancake race in Liberal, Andy Roddick in tennis, or the Metro Classic; I want to see fellow Kansan’s’ do well.
I guess, before I get plum carried away, I will end with this. Let’s not give our teams excuses for why they failed; let’s give them the encouragement, motivation, and the commitment that it takes to perform well.

Yes Prant, I was hoping you would notice this. While Roddick may be the best Kansan on the circuit right now I'm sure he would have to concede to you.
When do you plan to grace us? I like the sounds of "Breakfast with Prant at Wimbeldon."

I pretty much agree with what Randy had to say. I am not saying I have any certain midas touch. I was saying that our coach's are limited in what they can do. Heck. I admire all the coach's that were on the staff. I've worked with Reagan in the summer, Can any one deny what Sierant did with Turner this year, and I voted Parks as 6A coach of the year for what he done with STA. I don't know a whole lot about Flores but that he has produced some good wrestlers out of ACC. I am saying that the system we are using to prepare our wrestlers vs. Missouri is in no comparison. Failure to prepare is preparing for failure. We need to break the shackels off of our Kansas coach's and let them do their work. Hey I will admit I was dissapointed with their enthuisiam during the match. I did own the biggest butt whoppin by Missouri but I guarantee I was yelling and trying to motivate every wrestler to the end. I will never accept defeat. I reflect, change, and then move on. This forum is allowing for us as Kansas to reflect, now we need to change so the we can move on with a plan for success.
Kansas boys never forget.

I believe that a lot of the Missouri wrestlers went down several weights, which makes it very difficult for the Kansas guys to wrestle against, since most of the Kansas wrestlers wrestled at their original weights. I think it should be a rule even though you get whatever amount of pounds you should still wrestle the you weight where during the year plus whatever pounds you get to make it a little more even. If you where at this event it was very evident that most of the Missouri guys where a lot bigger than our guys.
I believe that ALL of the Kansas wrestlers that where chosen deserved to be in this Metro Classic they are all excellent wrestlers. They probably just needed more time to practice than 2 times together, so that the coaches could see what they are good at and so they can gel together as a team!

I agree if all there going to do is move down weight classes. Don't give 10 pounds maybe 2-5. Use the allwance for what it was meant for. Letting the wrestler eat not for weight class jockeying.
