Well aside from a 52-0 undefeated streak over 6 years, Abilene in 1999 was 10-0, outscored their opponents 568 - 95, nearly half of those 95 points were given up in forfeits at 103 and 275 weight classes, to my recollection one of the biggest margins of scoring in state history.

Is there anything Abilene hasn't done? Nigel are you the School Historian? Or do you just have a vast knowledge about everything...

Some city league teams out of recent memory are the 99 South team (Bainum, Brian Smith, Arthur Smith, Calvin, Mastrangelo, Fox, Washington), the 01 West High(Knox, Trevino, Bradley, Rhodes, Sanchez, Phillips, Chadwick, Samilton) and the 02 Bishop Carroll team(Vogel, Dugan, Sponsels, Browns).

Best dual team in the past 10 years was easily the Manhattan 1997-1998 squad. They were pretty much unbeatable at 152, 160, 171, 215 and 275. I'm not sure who filled out all the weights, but they had a murderers row that looked a little something like this: 152- Matt Bradshaw, 2x champ, runner-up 160- Kenneth Walter 3rd at state (and ma-ohny.) 171- Scott Coleman 3x champ, national champ 215- Pamon Darker 2x champ, fat guy 275- A.J. Polanksy 1x champ, runner-up, placer A guaranteed 22 (or so) points against every opponent. At folkstyle nationals in 1998, Manhattan High placed higher than 25 states. Chapman and Marysville are tough, but I doubt Abilene could have stood up to that. (Don't get mad, Nigel. It's just a joke.)

Actually Prant you are correct about the 98 Man-town squad, they were a great tournament team but were talking about dual teams here, with those 5 wrestlers you could score a maximum score of 30 points assuming you didn't win any other matches, and thats not going to be enough to beat really great dual teams.
Now as for your question parkwayred, the simple answer to your question, is no there isn't anything Abilene hasn't done. Does that mean they are the best team in state history? certainly not. What it does mean is that along with Ark City and Hoxie they are the most prodominent teams in the last decade.
Second part of your question, I do consider myself to be the school historian when it comes to the wrestling team. Since I did the team's webpage for three years it was my job to compile all the stats for the team, since I stopped doing the web page I have still keep records of the teams performance.

Hey Prant,
We at Chapman used to wrestle that tough Manhattan squad in a double dual with you guys and Hays. Our upperweights were pretty good, and usually a sure thing, but we'd get beat soundly by the upper weights you guys had (don't remember any of the team scores) I wrestled Cordell Black before Damon took over that weight and won his first state title that year.

props to the 1997 norton bluejays as a great dual team; aveage dual score was 51-19.
finsihed second in state to st. francis, proving once again that to win a state tournament (in 321A anyway) back side points are needed just as much as state champions (five finalists, four champs but no backside placers and therefore no first place trophy).
103 brent brandyberry--state champion 112 sean o'toole--missed state by one point 119 tim otter--state qualifier 125 mac martin--state qualifier 140 zane engelbert--missed state by one pt. 145 kale mann--state runner-up 171 curtis brown--state champion 189 ryan sumner--state qualifier 215 josh kellerman--state champion 275 jeff boyle--state champion; 0nly Kansan chosen to paticipant in the 1997 Dapper Dan USA vs. Pennsylvania dual, 1997 high school dream team HWT, HS all-american.

I may be wrong but I thought Kellerman's only state title was in 1998 at Hwt for Norton when he bumped up, because I wrestled Shaun Smiley at 215 in 1998 in the finals of the Minneapolis Tournament.

Which Kansas team(s) has/have the best single season dual record? A similar thread has been on neighboring states' forums.
MO record: Platte County (01-02) 24-1
IA record: Council Bluffs Lewis Central (00-01) 36-0

sweazy,
rusty miller wrestled hwt for norton in '98, winning the state championship that year. He was undersized--actually a 215 pounder--but very quick and strong.
josh kellerman was state champ in '97 at 215 after having finished 5th in 96 at 189.
norton also had five finalists in '98: brandyberry first at 103 (2x) wright second at 152 brown first at 171 (2x) smiley second at 215 miller first at 275
again, no back side placers meant a second place finish, to hoxie in '98. hoxie lost one match on the back side and norton only won one or twomatches on the back side. norton had to win four of their five finals matches to win the tournament and won "only" three.

Ok that's right...Miller...I remember standing with him during the finals with people that were from the bottom side of the bracket....I thought he was supposed to be my opponent..I saw Smiley, and the Smiley face I had went away...Came back when Miller beat the piss out of my teammate and best friend John Paul Shepherd.

Emporia set a national record with 13 straight undefeated dual seasons. Not too shabby, eh?

Wasn't that record broken about 2 or 3 years ago?

See thread on this talk forum regarding the Florida team with the thirty (30) year undefeated dual record which is the National Record.
I do not wish to imply that Emporia and Abilene's dual record is not impressive, just providing information about the national record!

I am just taking the information that I got from the Emporia wrestling site. I also know that they have a banner in their gym that also claims to be the keeper of the dual winning streak. If interested, here is the link, look for yourself: http://www.usd253.org/~ehswrest/wrestle.htm

The 81-82 Atchison County Team had a an average margin of victory of 58.4 in their duals (not bad). They went on to win the 4a state championship that year and the next. I noticed this on the wrestlingusa.com site on the National Records link.

Ok I got it figured out. Now I can only imagine that the banner they placed in that gym was put there before the year 1985 which was the year when Brandon Flordia surpassed 13 undefeated years. Technically Emporia did hold this record until 1985. Brandons streak begain in the year 1972. So I imagine they leave that banner up there for purly pride reasons. However I woudl like to note that Emporia did have a tie in 68' and 72" whereas Brandon has had no ties only wins. And im looking at the list and I only see 12 years where they are undeafeated so im not sure about the validity of the original 13 year claim. Rest assured however that Brandon does hold the record. Now as for Abilene, I am pretty sure I saw somewhere that Concordia had a long streak of dual wins like 77 or something, perhaps coach Moore might know? But if I am correct Abilene holds the current state record for consecutive dual wins under the new weight classes. While Kapaun hold the all time record at 123
