the topic of a state dual tournament has come up, but i havnt heard much about it lately.
there are both pro & cons to having a state dual tournament, as for me personally, i would like to see it conjuction with the individual state championships.
you could have a dual champion state title and a tournament team title as we have now. winning both would be like be winning the super bowl, the ultimate bragging rights if you will. do you think teams would strategically schedule and dual weak teams (non-league) to pad thier dual record to recieve a better seed?
or will it not matter? if i were a head coach i want to schedule tough tournaments and duals during the season to make my wrestlers more experienced and better wrestlers.
on another note i would like to see the option of grand-state brought back as well.
basically it would be just one more week of wrestling, heck basketball state finals are one or two weeks(?) after state wrestling, you could have it have it (the dual tournament) the following week after the team tournament.
do you have it all one weekend under one roof? or break it up into two weekends, a dual regionals, in 4 sites, then state duals the week after to crown top dog?
but some may argue its an addition to an already long season. wrestlers could wrestle 50+ matches in a season, is that too many? not me, competition only makes you better.
but how do you rank teams? how would you place them on a bracket? what would the criteria be? by schedule strength? by record dual record alone? do tournaments titles figure in seeding teams?
would it be a pool like the current dual tournaments are done now?
or would it be a conventional 32, or 64 team bracket (i.e. 64 for 321-a) and make it single elimation(like the NCAA Basketball Tourney?)
or do you make it double elimation and wreslte, the consolation side to 3rd & 4th, or even down to the 5th & 6th place? (i would like to see this happen, personally speaking.)
or do you throw all classes in 321-a, 4a, 5a, & 6a and everyone do battle? or do you seperate classes?
what do the athlete's think? it would be possible for some wrestlers to wrestle more than 50+ matches over the season, is that too many?
thoughts? comments? what is the status of a dual team championship format? is it dead?

Ill try to field those questions to the best of my knowledge.
First, 50+ matches in kansas appears to be ludicris because thats how its been done for a long time. Kids and coaches have grown accustomed to this abridged system. But it has been proven that kids can wrestle tons of matches(50+) states like Minnesota and Michigan. I know those Simmons brothers have like 215 and 219 career highschool wins under their belt. That would mean they have to wrestle as least 50 matches each season to attain such gaudy numbers.
People could argue that making weight two more times for venues like dual state and grand state may overwhelm a kid that has already been sucking down hard all season long. heck, why not just give the kids more lbs at events like this. The wrestlers that wrestle in the dual and grand state have most likely proved that can make that weight and giving them lbs would ensure better and healthier wrestling. Id say give them 4-5lbs. I remember my uncle who wrestled 20 yrs ago said that instead of giving 2lbs like they do now for the latter part of the season, they would give him 5lbs! So giving 4-5lbs wouldnt be too bad for the end of the season.
time to eat dinner soon, can't field all questions....
With the power of Ra!

Here's a thought, why don't we take out the east/west and put a one day eight man tournament, using the top two finishes at state in each class, while giving the kids just as much weight as the east/west classic?Financially, I'm sure there would be just as many, if not more tickets sold, we would see a lot more great wrestling, and finally get the grand state we all want.
