I have been watching my sons and grandsons wrestle for more than twenty-five years from MO to TX and now KS. I've seen good refs and bad refs, but I have never seen a ref do what the one named Aaron Weissman (spelling?) did at State this year. With one atrocious call, he ended a seniors dream and hard work to get to a title match, and he reacted like he enjoyed it. KSHSAA should train or get rid of this kind of ref who show bias and a complete lack of integrity on the mat.

No, this was a 6A 145 second rounder, and maybe it wouldn't have made any difference in the long run, but maybe it would have. It's just a shame it couldn't have been decided on the mat.

I have also been watching wrestling for many years and saw refs cater to previous state champions rather than call what was the right call. Weishire's match for one, Erismans match was also questionable. Why not let the wrestlers decide not the refs!

that is one large difference between the 321A's and 4, 5, and 6A's state tournaments, i have been to bothin the last two years and one thing that really stuck out to me last year while watchin 4,5,6A was that the refs pretty much wanted to decide the match, i myself prefer the style of officiating that you most usually see at Hays

Ive seen some pretty bad calls at hays over the years. It seems they usualy go in favor of western wrestlers.

All refs suck some of the time, and some refs suck all the time.

I talked to a ref about 6 months ago. he said he had been a ref for 20 yrs. but he hadn't refed at the state tournament for 15 yrs. He said it was b/c they didn't let him b/c the younger refs needed experience. He said it upset him that they do this because he knows it costs wrestlers matches at state b/c of the refs lack of experience.
What I'm wondering is: It is actually true that experienced refs are passed over just so younger refs can get experience?

lowerbodyjohnston-
Refs are picked for regionals and state by the coaches. Each coach submits a ballot with names of officials that they believed had done well this year. These votes are then tallied by the KSHSAA and the top vote winners receive regional and state bids.
