hehe, good idea...
can you wrestle the same guy twice in state? for instance... if you lose second round to "johnny bad***" and he loses 3rd round, but wins his next match...and you win your next 2 or 3 matches, wouldnt the same 2 people that wrestles 2nd round be wrestling for 3rd and 4th??
answer if u can follow this...

No they wont wrestle for third and fourth...But they will wrestle consolation semi's. Because third round is semi's, so that means they would meet up in the backside before 3rd and 4th. They crossbracket the same way because they started on the same side. Anyways...they used to have Grand State...where they took top four from 123A, 4A, 5A, and 6A...so you had a 16 man bracket, just like at state. The idea of bringing it back was rejected...but it would be awesome.

Lets add a 18 and under at kids state, or some where.Keep high school weights, charge like (25.00 per wrestler?) plus usa card fees, no cost to school dist.,no transportation fees for school dist.,no overnight motel cost to school dist., then lets see who are the bad boys that want to come and wrestle. No seedings, just draw for a spot, true wrestle back for second, and maybe a challenge for first. Lets do it, then no excuses. May the best man win. Sounds good, lets do it. Call it the bmoc tour.

If everything plays out right, that could happen at the 119 class in 123A. Roe of Norton beat Patton of Wellsville in the 2nd round, then lost in the quarterfinals to baker of hoxie. If Roe beats the winner of Baxter-Henjy, and patton wins his next two which could very likely happen, him and Roe would meet for 3-4th which would be another great match.

A Grand State tournament concept is fine, but I do not think that it should be at Kids State for 18 & Unders. There are enough problems at Kids State getting everything handled efficiently with all they have going now. There is not enough time or mat space for some of the younger kids due to an overcrowded tournament situation at Kids State and Districts now. Actually I think 16 & Unders should not be at Kids State. I believe the Kansas High School Wrestling Governing Association agrees with me on that. I do not believe that there is a 16 & under in Missouri Kids State. Besides if you are going to have a real Grand State competition you need to include the 16 & unders because some of them would probably win it. A true Grand State would not limit it to 18 & Under.

Geee- I thought 18 and under meant any one under the age of 18, 17,16,15,14,13,12 and so on and on. SO there are some clubs out there that might have fac. to run it.That way you could leave 16 and under at kids state, if needed, then if you are a big boy then wrestle 18 and under. ta-da.

bmocpapa, The way I read your original post it seemed that you were suggesting that a possible place for your Grand State proposal would be the Kansas Kids State that is held at the Kansas Expocentre each year (3/28/03 this year). Under the current rules for that event you could not achieve what you propose there because they are not allowed to wrestle out of their age groups. With the current August 31 cutoff date for determining age, most freshmen would be in 14 & under and sophomores and juniors are in 16 & under. Believe me even if you could get them to change that rule you would not want this event held there at the same time with all the younger kids' groups (8, 10, 12, & at least half of the 14 & under groups). I think it is too congested and crowded already both for the wrestlers and the spectators.
I do like the Grand State concept like a lot of other people. It would be neat to see all the top two or four finishers from this weekend's tournament face off in a final tournament. The question is what will happen first a Division I NCAA college football playoff or a new Kansas Grand State High School Wrestling Tournament?

130fatty: You can wrestle a guy two times at state. It happened yesterday at 3-2-1A in Hays in the 215 bracket. Zimmerman of Eureka met up with Plattner of Sabetha. Plattner won. Then for 3rd and 4th, they met again and Zimmerman won. Wonderful outcome!
