You all know the Newton is one of the toughest tournaments in the state and almost every weight is deep with talent. What you may not know is that the seeding meeting is Friday morning from 8:00 to 10:30. That's right - there is a 10 minute time limit per weight to seed the top 6 to 8 wrestlers. This seems like a very daunting undertaking.
So for fun I think we, the forum, should pre-seed the tournament for them.(since we are the smartest, most informed wrestlers/coaches in the state)
The criteria for seeding is head to head, returning state medalist, returning Newton medalist, outstanding record, then common opponent. It is not who you think will win, it is who has criteria to be seeded. I will put down the order I think it should be seeded based on returning state and returning Newton and any head to head I could find. What I don't know is common opponets (he lost to this guy and my guy beat him ect.) If you have any doucmentable evidence that the seeding order is wrong please inform us and we will try to save Newton a lot of work.

I think Breckelman (sp?) placed 2nd at state last year while Munoz did not place, flipping those two seeds (unless they have met). I also think Long (El) is at 125 this year. Could be way wrong though.

I think Scram 171 from Ark City beat Moore from Winfield 8-5 for 3rd last week at Derby coach.

Long of El Dorado is at 135 right now not 119. If you are going to seed Jeb Woodford 2nd, you might want to at least put Wes Barrett on the list considering he beat Woodford at Ottowa.

Jamie, according to the Finkeldei formula, if your seeds are 100% correct, which they probably will change, what is the team outcome for Newton? Have fun with that!!!!

This is the kind of good information I was looking for.
New 119 Wall Spaulding Breckelman Munoz Baumfaulk Hasselbring Duling who is 8??
New 125 Crumbliss Elliott Dreling Barrett Wooford Mann Kastor Fleming
new 160 - we need to put Chrisman (camp) in Sikes Warner Chrisman Rush Randolph Frailey Whitehall Gabler
new 171 Ward Marrs Scram Moore Jackson Nigthengale Williams hayne
Church - After the above changes: According to these seeds and the formula, it is 1) Norton 2) Clay Center 3) Ark City 4) Perry 5) Bishop Carroll 6) Campus 7) Emporia - although I hear I'm missing an emporia stud who is becoming eligible (help) 8) Maize 9) Salina SOuth 10) Wichita South

boyer and josh marrs from clay center will be the other way around from what you have it, with boyer at 171 and josh at 189.

Madden is a 2x state champ, and is returing state champ at 112, so he should probably be #1, Metzler should be #2

Metzler is a state champ as well is he not, and I know freestyle/GR does not count in the KS folkstyle mindset but he is a 2x aa at Fargo which would carry more weight with a college recruiter that is for sure. Metzler is the real deal and if I was his coach, I would not conceed to Madden. You better get the pill bottle.

Madden is a returning champ at the same weight. In addition he is a 2x state champ, while metzler is a 1x state champ. The fact that Madden's last title was at the same weight generally carries more weight in the criteria than at championship at a lower weight class. And Freestyle/Greco doesn't mean a thing here. I don't know that it is a matter of conceeding, Madden has the criteria. Now they just need to settle it on the mat.
