To: ik123 I'm a sainty fan from long ago when Zuege was a HW legend. I think Mr. Gabel and Mr. Jenkins have been there for close to 30 years. I think they will always have one individual champ but I don't know about team wise.
PS Do you know who was coach at Hoxie before Baker?

St Francis has not had a state champ in the last three years or a finalist the last two. They do have the best tradition all time in the state, with the most individual champions and the most team titles. To be as good as they have been in the past, well.....they would have to be awful good. There are only three coaches who have won a 3A title in the last 10 years. Gabel of St Francis, Flores of Effingham and Leoti, and Baker of Hoxie, so they have the coach to get it done. They have some pretty good kids, we will just have to see how well they do teamwise.

Hoxie's head coach before Kirk Baker was Paul Babcock and prior to that was Bob Lovin. Baker joined Coach Lovin's program in the early 80's as a rule 10 coach. Then in 1983 Babcock was named head coach with Baker continuing as the assistant. Baker later assumed head coaching responsibilities and hired Mike Porsch as his assistant coach.
Fanatic brings up a very valid point in looking at the coaches wo have won the 3-2-1A title in the past 10 or so years. (year, team, coach). Would seem to be a trend there, huh?
2002 Hoxie Baker 2001 ACCHS / Effingham Flores 2000 ACCHS / Effingham Flores 1999 Hoxie Baker 1998 Hoxie Baker 1997 St. Francis Gabel 1996 tie St. Francis / Leoti Gabel / Flores 1995 Leoti Flores 1994 Hoxie Baker 1993 Stockton ?? ?? 1992 Plainville Fredrickson 1991 Hoxie Baker 1990 Hoxie Baker

Mr. RE: Trend Would lead Sherlock Holmes to deduce that the Northwest Kansas League/Area tend to be contenders. PS. I think Flores was once at Leoti and that Baker Wrestled for Goodland and Maybe Fredricson for Oberlin?? - Usually a tough regioinal (NW)
PS.PS. Did Gable and Jenkins Retire at Sainty

They're still both at St. Francis along with other assistant coach Daryl Loyd.

I know Rocky Welton won titles at both Goodland and Garden City. Other than Flores and Welton who are some other coaches who have done this?
