I would like to thank all the wrestling radio media in NW Kansas for the outstanding job and service you provide your community.

I have been fortunate to listen to the radio broadcasts out of Goodland and Oberlin and they do a great job. It is easy for me to enjoy the enthusiasm shown by the local radio officials when one of their towns own is wrestling and I have no dog in the hunt.

Please let your sponsors know this is appreciated not only in your local community but in other portions of the state as well.

I am envious of this great service provided in NW Kansas.

100% in agreement on this one. Other media outlets in the state lag behind the NW part of our state, although I will say NE does a decent job at times in Kansas City when you can watch televised wreslting duals.

The best part about going back to Northwestern Kansas after the state finals is to watch Smoky Hills Public Television when they show the championship matches one more time.

Some of the few things I miss about western kansas is the great wrestling, Taco Shop and the excellent support that local radio stations give to their community. If only we were so fortunate in the east.

Great post and a well deserved kudos!

What I don't understand is how I could have grown up in western Kansas and NEVER heard about wrestling! Weird, huh?

My question would be- what are you defining as "Western" Kansas. Those of us who are true NW Kansas people generally believe anything North and West of Russell is the NW portion of the state. I have heard others argue that anything N & W of Salina is North West Kansas- but as far as wrestling goes I would have to disagree! Prant will try to tell you anything from Manhattan west is Western Kansas, but obviously he is incorrect. It kind of makes one wonder how he got into that fancy school of his!

coachtwink- I agree with your statement. It is funny that if you ask some people in Hays what part of Kansas do they live in, they will tell you Central Kansas. But to people in Salina and around here, Hays is in Western Kansas. I went to a small school (Palco-home of the Roosters) but spent the first 10 years of my life in Atwood. My parents where best friends with Gus and Pat Garcia and so we spent many evenings watching wrestling in Atwood. When we moved, there was no wrestling at our school. My MOM took it very hard.

There are parts of western Kansas that are too small to have a wrestling program. If you attended school at one of these places, you may actually have been left out of the loop. Mom160, where did you grow up? Did you attend a 1A school?

I grew up in Sharon Springs, which you cannot define in any way EXCEPT western Kansas, since we are 12 miles from the Colorado border. I lived in Goodland for a bried stint (my folks owned the campground across from the truck stop), but didn't attend Goodland High long enough to know about any of the activities.

That would definitely be NW Kansas, I am sorry you missed out on that important part of growing up in NW Kansas, but at least it seems you are making up for lost time!

Can't forget or overlook the OUTSTANDING and award winning work of the radio personnel from KQNK Radio in Norton (the voice Fig Millan and his stats-man, Rick Green). They are at 1530 AM or 106.7 FM on your radio dial and also can be heard via the internet at http://www.kqnk.com.

Also, props should go to Tad Felts at KQMA radio in Phillipsburg who does a very good job of broadcasting wrestling.

Aaron- do you get the Smoky Hill channel in Chapman? We use to have satellite in Abilene until this year and of course had no local channels (even though they tell you they do). We are now on cable but I still don't think we get the channel. If Chapman does, I may just have to come and watch it.

Don't forget the guys who do an exceptional job at KFNF in Oberlin, Adam Kadavy and Ken Badsky. If I heard right, they are doing the Colby-Oberlin Dual tomorrow night. You can also hear them on the internet at sports.kfnf101.com.

I've been able to watch it when I was in El Dorado too. What they typically do is they play it on PBS like they do the Shrine Bowl and the various PBS stations across the state pick it up.

WE HAVE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE THE LAST 20 PLUS YEARS HERE IN GOODLAND WITH KLOE & KWGB AND THE VOICE OF THE COWBOYS WILMER BAHE WHO HAS DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB BROADCASTING WRESTLING EVEN FOR THE SURROUNDING NORTHWEST KANSAS TEAMS. HE RETIRED THIS YEAR BUT IT LOOKS LIKE HE WILL BE COVERING THE 4A REGINOLS AND STATE TOURNAMENTS, HE AND LARRY EVES ARE THE ONE'S THAT STARTED WRESTLING COVERAGE IN THIS AREA. JOB WELL DONE!!!!!

Yes you can listen to the radio broadcast of the Oberlin-Colby dual by going on the internet @

sports.kfnf.com

Air time is around 6:30 pm

If you are within 90 miles of Oberlin you can listen on the FM dial @ 101.1

It's sports.kfnf101.com. I would say that Wilmer Bahe is one of the legends in wrestling broadcasting.

wrestlingfan0606 you can try it your way but you won't get connected, but if you go to

sports.kfnf.com

and them click on "Click here for streaming Red Devils Sports" it will work.

Adam & Ken do a super job.
