I would have to go with Kevin Klem from East Kansas Wrestling Club on this one. He has been a great help to all of the kids, espicially older. He taught great technique and will not be coaching EKWC this year nor will there even be a folkstyle club because he moved to California to assistant coach wrestling at Stanford University.

As a wrestler I had the opportunity to work with many coaches who have influenced me as a wrestler, and now as a coach I've also met many people that I aspire to live up to when it comes to being able to motivate and inspire kids to want to build their program.
As a wrestler:
Dean Sheats, Tobie Waldeck, and my father Jack Deyoe taught me the funamentals and what hard-work was about. Kevin Klemm and East Kansas fixed alot of errors in my game and made me understand what wrestling like a champion could be like. Merrick Wiles, Curtis Simons, Dennis Charbonneau, all gave me a lot to work with as a Cadet National Team member.
As a coach:
I have always considered Larry Gabel, Doug Broadfoot, Gary Ulmer, Jody Thompson, as the type of coach that I'd like to become one day. There are many others that belong in this category, but the men above in both lists I have personally seen them set aside their own ego's for kids, no matter how difficult it was. Taking the time, building the sport, and promoting it all so positively is such a difficult thing but the state of Kansas is fortunate to have coaches such as these men to make our state a powerful wrestling contender.
The fact that we have such great coaches in this state, and it is continuously getting better all the time, is obvious in how far the sport has come in the past 20 years. Kansas Wrestling is respected- still without enough college representation, but respected from the states that gain the fruits of our labors.

Kansas has been blessed with some great coaches and great wrestling, Klemm has produced some awesome well-disciplined kids with East Kansas. Wayne Jackson's record has to be taken in to consideration, Flores' kids just are so dang tough.
There have been some fun times out there, Tilton and Beal at ACCHS were great guys and fun to coach against. Lamar once weighed in a manager (female) to take a forfeit at a dual, his kids are always tough, and Moore at Concordia has had some great kids and is a great competitor as a coach.

ROD SPELLMAN, a soft-spoken no-nonsense great TEACHER whom we always thought of as a Mr. Myagi(Me ah gee) from movie "Karate Kid." He was more than just a great COACH but someone who cared about how his wrestlers were going to turn out as a young man after his career and emphasized that through hearts true desire, daily dedication and unyielding determination of a young man to accomplish his goals that success WILL be the ultimate outcome. The late LARRY TILTON's success also speaks for itself. These are both gentleman that we here in the Northeast Kansas area miss having @ matside producing many great wrestlers.
