There is already talk of having only one winning record in a weight class at a 321A Regional. I thought the best 16 in the state were supposed to be at the state tournament. When there are guys there with a losing record I don't think the job is getting done. There are several quality kids that could place at state from two regionals that will not qualify for state. The state tournament is supposed to have the BEST 16 kids in the state competing and it's not happening.

Good thought.
But that arguement has been debated for many years. I don't have all of the details, but seem to recall a proposal aimed at revamping the existing regional set-up in 3-2-1A to make it more equitable. But think it died due to a lack of support. Anyone able to outline the details of that proposal?
A couple of downsides could stem from the loss of regional representation from all four corners. And the ripple effect that could cause on the potential loss of regional interest from spectators and athletes. Which could be a step backward in the battle to keep TITLE IX from decimating our sport.

I am sure that every sport could say the same thing. Track could for sure. There are some regionals where the third and fourth places were better than the first and second places. That's life.

Northwest Kansas has nothing to gripe about. Four thirty years they had regionals and state in their own backyard. They never had to travel and they were darn near wrestling a home match at every post season tourney. Whine Whine Whine. It is going to be impossible to predict from one year to the next where the tough regionals will fall you just have to play the cards you are dealt and deal with it. Just because you are up this year and in a tough regional doesnt mean anyone is going to cry for you.

patriots, That may be sad, but you don't know who they have wrestled. You also don't know how old they are. Maybe they are first time wrestlers who are just getting started.

You guys are funny. I assume most of you are high school kids. Just because you went one year sure doesn't promise a return ticket. One year we were unranked all year long, came to state from the "poor" regional, and went home with a state trophy so you know they sure have to work it out on the mat no matter where they come from. That team placed seven kids and four of the seven were unranked. Every dog has his day men and just because you ain't heard of him doesn't mean he ain't tough.

I think they are referring to the Goodland Regional or maybe one of the 123A regionals. They are tough this year no doubt but he what the heck.

Like it or not, high school tournaments are divided up by geography. The idea of shipping some struggling programs 200 miles across the state just because other programs didn't get all 14 guys to state is just plain impractical and kind of silly. In these days of tight school budgets, a school with a struggling program might start looking at having to go from Atchison to Elkhart for Regionals as a good reason to drop the program. Is that really worth the trade-off (although I bet I know at least one answer to that!).

Most of the regionals have some sort of stacking of one or two weights that the 5th or 6th person would easily be better than someone in another regional.
At Goodland it is 119 plus some, at Eldorado it is 103, 130, and 171 to name a few.
The facts are if you want fair, go to Hutchinson there is one a year, other than that life isn't fair. Live with it.

In the 4a regional at Burlington last year it was loaded at 140. #s 2,3,5 & 6 were there as well as a few others with excellent records. An unranked wrestler won it and #3 did not qualify for state, it's just really tough some times the way it shakes out. However, those that made it out of that regional finished 3,4,5, & 6 at state in the same order. All you can do is try to give your best effort and accept the result.

I know what you mean. It just pisses you off when some chump you smoked gets 1st or 2nd at his regional. But ther's not much we can do about it. My senior year the 4 from my regional took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. It will never change. The central to western part of the state always claims to get screwed and the eastern part always claims past success stories, even though they came from the "weak" regionals. Such is life.

Right now it looks like maybe the guys at Goodland may have gotten the short end of the stick, no question that in some weights there are potential state placers that will be eliminated, but I think when state is over the top four placers at Goodland will not be the first four at state in many , if any weight classes. No doubt there are more good TEAMS at Goodland than anywhere else but there are just so many good individuals all over the state that it will be pretty split up at state. And some of the other good teams that will have less compitition at their regional will have more numbers and thus a better chance to win.
