I was just wanting to know why the Clay Center people bood Ross Taplin when he went out to shake hands in the finals? From what I see Abilene crowd was going all out for Clay Centers Danny Grater in his finals match. And then the Clay Center side booed Ross.

No one likes Ross. Plain and simple. He was booed by lots of people. Maybe if he wasnt such a jerk when he won then people would respect him.

Such a jerk when he won. What are you talking about I didn't see Taplin do anything wrong? John maybe you are jealous as I remeber you posted a couple of topics on taplin through out the season. And it looked like there where alot of people tell him great job. so there must be some people out there that doesn't think he is a jerk. because it took me about ten mins. to tell him great job. you sound pretty much like a spook to me.

I have seen Taplin wrestle a few times and always acted respectable.

Abilene was going all out for Grater because danny was wrestling someone from columbus. Which was the team that was closest to them at the time.

Maybe you're not an ugly human, but a good looking ape.....with exceptional verbal skills.

Taplin is a state champ with one loss on the season, he has a right to be cocky if he wants to.

Actually Chewbaca maybe the Abilene fans were cheering for Danny becuase they wanted to see him win? At that point in the tournament there was no way Columbus could have come back and won the team title so your arguement is a little off base. And even so If Abilene cheered for Danny the least you could do is cheer for Ross since we are both in the same league. Perhaps Clay Center was just mad becuase they didn't win the team title???? Oh and there is never a reason to be cocky, period!!! Confident yes, cockness no

abilene ended up with 113 points
columbus ended up with 100 points
taplin loses=109 points
columbus wins 140 and 171 with at least one match winning by a major decision=109 points
so columbus still had a chance at that moment
i'm not saying that abilene did not want grater to win though.
I have heard some of the clay center kids say they do not like ross because he is a jerk. also i don't think that clay center had any chance of winning a state title. maybe if every one of their 4 kids took state.

wrestling is a tuff sport you go out on to the mat and wrestle for yourself and for the team. ross has improved a lot since last season and works real hard just like any other wrestler would. theres a lot of other wrestlers out there that are just like ross or have the same self confindece and you dont see anyone talking crap on them.and if anything you should be proud of his accoplishment, its not that easy to walk away with a state title especially at a weight as tuff as ross's.and as for graters match we wanted to see him win, ya we wanted him to beat that coloumbus kid, but also danny is also a good wrestler and we wanted to show him the appreciation he deserved. and for whoever bood(no matter where your from) that shows a lot of dis-respect.

Funny, in an earlier post about Danny Grater getting beat (which was incorrect), Nigel posted something about "that's what happens when you get too cocky". Danny is far from cocky!! He takes every win and loss the same!! He had his state championship celebration cut short, and he sure didn't go back to the center of the mat and bounce up and down like I saw an Abilene wrestler do after his opponent was injured/hurt!!! Danny was very concerned for Nick and was glad when he was up and able to accept his award. I wouldn't have exactly said Nigel was cheering on Danny!!

By the way, congrats to Abilene and keeping it in the NCKL. Both teams have some really great wrestlers!!

Yss and if you would have read the post right after that you would have saw that I mentions that I was incorect and that I was glad that Danny did as well as he did, so perhaps you should read more carefully. Plain and simple whatever clay center fans were booing, they are stupid and I won't say the entire Clay team becuase I know they all aren't like that. Abilene didn't boo any clay center wrestlers so I find that offensive. I have lost a lot of respect for Clay Center as a team after hearing about this sickening behavior. Once again for the record I happen to like Danny and im glad he one, and what I said about him is the same for eeyone else, Good wrestlers usually lose to less talented wrestlers becuase they get to cocky, had Ross lost my thought probably would have been the same.

Nigel, You state you heard about Clay Centers sickening behavior. Were you not at the state tournament? I've read all your expert opinions on various topics concerning the state tournament and now you say you heard about it.

What is funny is that I was sitting in the lower Clay Center section and didn't hear any boos from where I was sitting in our section. There were a lot of other people around us. I've always felt its better to not cheer (or post something on this talk page) than to pay disrespect to an individual by booing.

Great job to ALL wrestlers!!

Ok how about this, if there is someone here is says they can guarantee that no one from clay center was booing Ross then I will retract my previous statement and leave it at that. As for my expert I stick by them, Unlike some people who may be old and think that they know whats going on in the sport of wrestling today I have wrestled and continued to wrestled in the last 12 years . I have also been coaching with one of the best coaching staffs in the state since my competitive wrestling days ended so I think I have a better prospective then someone who has done nothing but sit in the stands and watch, complain, and then come on the forum and cry about every little bad things that happens to them. Oh and just coaching doesn't qualify you as an expert either. Wrestling today is not like wrestling of 20 years ago, if you don't like my opionion Im not sure I really care. BUt they are almost always based on a true life fact. So to make everyone happy, If Clay people did not boo Ross then I apologize with all my heart. However if they did then you should be ashamed of yourselfs. I don't really like to be critizsed by anonymous people so if you have something to say to me then please have the respect to tell me who you are, As you can see my name is clearly posted.

ok i am from clay center and i heard clay center fans in the upper section boo taplin, and i wish they would not have done that. it really shows that clay center maybe has lost some class. the only way i'll root against a wrestler is if they are wrestling against clay center, wrestling against a wrestler i like, or if they are wrestling against a team close to clay center in the standings. I will not boo another wrestler though. if clay center did not win the team title, then i am glad that it stayed in the league.

To Mr Salyer,

I do in fact try to inherit some knowledge from my elders but only to the extent that it will benefit me in either my wrestling or my coaching. I listen and love to hear things from coaches that have productive things to say like Doug Moore of Concordia, and Curtis Simmons of Emporia and a number of other. On the other hand there are plenty of coaching around the state that I don't care for becuase of the way they handle their team. It promotes bad sportsmanship and that is the #1 bad thing for me. Now as for particualar moves not changing. No the single and double leg have not changed and other such moves. But how long has the front headlock that Abilene uses been around or really used as well as they do it? Or another move such as the spladle that Nate Smith destroyed countless amounts of people with? But thats not really the point. What I meant by changes in wrestling is the rules. there are plenty of new rules that are designed to keep the sport fast-paced and exciting but im not going into that. As for wrestlers of the past beating wrestlers of today. Well I don't want to speculate either but on the whole I think that wrestlers of today would be better than wrestlers of old. Granted there are exceptions. I mean who in the past could have beaten a Bo Maynes, Zach Robertson, Doug Hoover, Jacob Klein, Jeff Boyle, Cale Sanderson!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the list goes on. There is a following and a sense of dedication to the sport today that im sure didn't exist in that time. Finnaly to Chewbacca, im am very gratefull that you have the class to admit the truth. It just proves that despite a few fns ruining it for an entire team there are still decent ones sitting up there. But I think this post has reached its end, and hopefully this issue can just die out and maybe someone has learned a lesson.

Nigel don't forget me and give me credit for the Abilene state championship Isom,
My problem is you come on this forum when and after Abilene wins the state (for your self serving issues) and talk about things you didn't see:
1. Coach Johnson (Norton) at the Phillipsburg tourny
2. Clay Center fans booing
3. Strait/Weishaar match
4. Grater being cocky (when you thought he lost)
You jumped on me for asking fans and coaches to look at how we run tournaments now and ask ourselves if there might be a better way and more exciting way. I'm an old man and my name does not mean a hill of beans to anyone in this state. If I posted my name, my buddies might haul me off to Menningers for asking if there is a better way to run a wrestling tournament. Some peole think I need to be there now.
Nigel, could you post your picture by your name. Anybody as important as you should have their picture posted so the rest of us know we are saluting the right fellow when you walk by.
