dyer couldn't beat lattimer,speer, maze, nelson, or Lane, he might be able to beat crowley but I don't know that would be a good match, just because there is a lack in talent in the 189 catagory these days everyone thinks dyer is the best, to bad royce williams had too bad of grades to go to state junior and senior year or I do believe he would have defeated dyer.

I would think that it is very difficult to not be a good wrestler as well as be nationally ranked and one of the top seniors in the nation at your weight. I wrestled with all of these guys you are talking about except Dyer. I have just seen him on several occasions. Dyer would beat any of the wrestlers that you have listed here without a doubt. On another note, Williams did not miss state because of his grades, even if he had gone to state, I don't think he would have beat Dyer, he didn't have the technical skills that Dyer does.

Jalon, when did you start wrestling? I know joel started when he was in 8th grade and wasn't the most athletic kid on the team. The reason he is at OU is because he improved at a rapid pace. He may not be at the caliber of the other wrestlers OU signed but he listens and learns quickly. What are you doing? Where are you wrestling? Are you doing anything? I can recall a few 4x state champs OU has signed that didn't get to wrestle until their 4th and 5th years.

There is a real misconception out there about college wrestling. It isnt magic, it is motor. Sanderson hits some of the most basic moves in wrestling he just hits them with such tremedous intensity and consistency that he controls the tempo of everything aroun him. He slows things down and creates his own environment and his motor is always wide open. Dyer has that motor. A lot of kids have had that motor but didnt get a real shot. Do you think Eric Akin is a gifted athlete or went to college with some special gift that no one else in the state had. Eric is a good friend of mine and I coached against him so many times I can't remember them all. What Eric had that set him up for success was heart and brains. He worked at his craft. He beat a heck of a lot of kids that were better atheletes than he was and had technique that he might not have had. He just kept his motor running and had a great self image. College wrestlers are just kids, but they are highly motivated kids. Dyer is a hell of an athlete and his motor is wide open. Hide and watch, he will be very successful at OU and he wont be the first Kansas kid that was successful at OU or OSU. There have been a lot of them.

Yes, I am sure he improved greatly but what I meant was I don't think he has the skills necessary to compete at the Div.1 level and I am not saying that I do either.By the way I just finished my second year of wrestling at Labette, where I qualified for nationals both years, I would rather wrestle at a juco college for two years and be varsity rather than waste my eligibility at a Div.1 school being a practice dummy. :p

Crowley, not to get into a character debate with you, but what you have said doesn't make much sense. You have knocked a couple kids on here for going D-1 who don't deserve it, or can't hack it at that level, as far as your concerned, but they have received offers from D-1 schools. Did you receive any D-1 offers? I don't know and am not trying to say anything by that, just wanted to know. By what you said there, a juco national qualifier would only be a practice dummy for a D-1 school. I'm just not sure that I understand your thought process there. Sorry.

So jalon where are you headed now? I don't know why you talk so much crap on Tap going D1 when Bo Maynes did the same thing and look where he is . It took him a while to get a varsity spot and it was because of an injury even though he was one of the top wrestlers in the country. OU has a good program and I believe thier wrestlers learn more and improve better than wrestlers going juco, epecially around here when almost anyone can get a scholarship. I can see your argument if someone doesn't get to wrestle because of going D1 but that's what open tourneys are for.

Hey Crowley.... Did I miss something? Are we now measuring division I ability on you? How did that happen? Why did it happen? What did I miss here? So many questions....

I have watched Justin Dyer a few times and I think you are grossly underestimating his ability. I don't know him personally and I have never wrestled any of the people on your list, which makes me very objective. The first four guys on your list were all beaten by Manuel Meraz at one point in time, and even though I think Manuel was a good wrestler, I don't think he would stand a chance versus Dyer. If you remember, Joe had only started wrestling when he was in high school and didn't really have the fundamentals that Dyer has. It would probably be a more competetive match, but the reason Dyer really hasn't seen much competition is everyone wants there chance at a title and they know they can't get it at 1893 Also, your remarks about Joel Tapler are extremely unfair. Someone that knows more about wrestling talent than anyone on this forum offered him a scholarship. As most of us know, D1 scholarships are very hard to come by. You must pay your dues in the classroom as well as show your potential on the mat. He earned that scholarship and definately deserves to be where he is at.

As far as Dyer goes I just hope that maybe he wasn't cutting very much weight this year and maybe he'll go to 184. Going by the size of his arms I don't see too much more room for gaining weight W/O getting too bulky.
