I would like to compliment the wrestlers and fans from Bishop Carroll not just for winning the team title and for their individual placing, but for their sportmanship and support they showed this past weekend. I was with the team that sat beside them from Topeka Seaman. Their administation and staff should be proud of the representation that these individuals showed of their school. Granted we had some of our wrestlers who had to compete against some of thiers and at no point did we have a problem due to us sitting beside each other. A matter of fact we both started to cheer for each others wrestlers throughout the tournament. It's great to see the support their wrestlers received. Also don't let me forget the Mulvane fans also. They showed tremendous support as well. In a sport that has always for some reason or another taken a back seat to Basketball it was great to see these two team have the support they have. My hat is off to these two teams and their fans. I look forward to next years state and sitting beside Bishop Carroll again.

I just wanted to add to your comment about the Topeka Seaman crowd. I have never seen another school do the "Bishop Carroll" chant, and to see it at a place like state was awesome. This showed a lot of class for your crowd and school, what a great representation from these two schools. I know that in the past there have been some problems with teams sitting next to eachother and taking a loss by one of their kids personally. I'm glad to see that these schools were able to remember that this is a friendly competition, to be enjoyed by both athletes and fans.

When witchita west did the same types of cheers in the years past, everyone thought they were classless jerks. You seem to me to be setting a double standard.

A Bishop Carroll wrestler did not make a throat slashing gesture to the crowd either. The BC wrestlers and their coaches represent themselves with class. They have worked hard to get their sare of the pie.

Roy, if you had seen any of the other tournaments that Wichita West was at, you would understand that their fans and wrestlers seem to be more interested in making themselves stand out and impressing themselves. When they did the West High cheer at City League (in years past, I don't remember it this year), it was not intended to pump their crowd or wrestlers up, it was directed at the other fans and wrestlers trying to show that they were better wrestlers. They wanted everyone to know that they were number one, they didn't just let their wrestling do the talking and win with humility and sportsmanship. I don't remember who it was, but in the finals he was wrestling a Spaulding brother who got hurt during the match, while the trainers were attending to the Emporia kid, the West wrestler did not show any concern for his well being. Instead, he was pointing to the crowd and himself drawing everyone's attention to him. This was the first time that I have ever seen a state champion booed for his performance.

JumboSport, I sat by the West fans last weekend at the state tournament, I found them to be very nice and friendly. Like all teams, they have a few mothers that get very excited but that is a mothers right. It was fun watching them get so excited. We all know West has a reputation for being poor sports, but I can tell you they were great fans at state.

West High has about 5 or 6 fans who taunt and shout at other teams fans when West is winning. This year they were relatively quiet. Most of their fans are true-blue wrestling lovers cheering for their guys. I saw one man at the 2001 championships walk away from the rest of the group shouting at them for making fools of themselves, and I've noticed some parents who don't even sit with the rowdy types.

People, when I posted the comment first I was just trying to compliment a team on their sportsmanship. I in no way was trying to start a discussion on how another team is poor on their sportsmanship. I think everyone that gets on the forum is trying to start some sort of an argument. I was hoping to give some good information for a change on this site. Yes there are some teams that have a hard time of acting like champions, and I have witnessed this during the past season. I just wanted to give Bishop Carroll a compliment for the way they handled themselves at the state tournament. Again, great job Bishop Carroll and I do look forward to sitting beside you next year and pass my thanks on to the young girls who helped save our seats. Remember it's SEAMAN VIKINGS, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, BISHOP CARROLL clap, clap, clap, clap, clap. SEE YA NEXT YEAR!

I will have to give West credit, they seemed to be a lot more under control this year compared to years past. As I mentioned, I don't remember seeing this at this years City League tournament nor do i remember them this year at state. Of course there were a couple mothers that I could hear from the floor, but that was when Knox upset Garcia in the semis (an understandable excitement) and when their 19lber made the finals (again, a great reason to get excited). I'm glad to see that this was the case this year and I hope that this is the beginning of a trend that goes in to the years to come. Thanks again topmiller for the compliment (makes the AD and principal real happy to see comments like these).

I'd also like to send my compliments to Bishop Carrol. Their sportsmanship was impressive. Their fans, their wrestlers, and the staff were absolutely tremendous all year, at every tournament/dual. Congratulations on your EARNED state championship, and congratulations to Jared Vogel, after wrestling him four times this year, I have the up-most respect for him. He worked hard and is a great wrestler

I would just like to thank Topeka Seaman for also being very wonderful neighbors to us at the state tournament. We enjoyed it, you were very nice to talk with. Congrats to your 2 boys who took 6th!! We will get there early next year and reserve a spot next to us for you. Thanks to those who went to the other side and started the "We got spirit, yes we do, we got spirit how about you." We will enjoy seeing you next year!
