Very hard to put together a team for Hoxie since almost all the state champs were under the 150 pound weight class so here is a web sight to all of Hoxie's state champs. http://www.hoxie.org/HOXIE0506/state_champions.htm

I'd like to put together my choices for Wichita West all time best. Jeff Watkins has some good choices. Some I agree on some I don't. I might add all the state champions for Wichita West (since 1989) with the exception of Don Boone did wrestle with the Team of Hard Knox before they won their title. Couple of changes Charles KnoxJr. because he was an All American while in high school at 103 Bryant Richard 3x placier 1x st champ at 112 B. L. Chadwick 4x placier at 152

Tristen Deshazer could have any of the spots between 103 and 130 with the exception of 125 which belongs to his Dad (Danny) Tristen stuff looks like this All American 3x state champ.

103 Travis Phippen State Champion and 3rd 2X College All American 112 Brett Cairns State Champion 119 Jeremy Long 4X State Champion 125 Travis McBurney 2nd and 5th 130 Josh Bessette State Champion and 4th 135 Kirk Wiscombe 2nd 140 Sam Wallis 2nd 145 Travis Eden 3X State Placer 152 John Blosser 2X State Champion and 3rd, Cadet All American 160 Justin Wiscombe State Champion 3rd and 6th 171 Shaun Moore State Champion and 2nd 189 Brian Bogren 3rd and 5th 215 HWT Dean Turner 3rd
BTW I stand corrected Scott Goodale did win a title at 103 in 1990. My apologies.

The only addition, or change, I would make to the South roster is that I would include Tim Elliot and Mark Richards.
Jared Byrne was a great wrestler, but he only took 3rd place at state, so I would probably omit his name: no disrespect intended.

Back to the question about the Tristen And Danny Grater match. I have no idea. Tristen is so long and lanky, and dangerous to throw you in a headlock at anytime. That is why it is so fun to watch him. But I never really have had the pleasure to watch Danny Grater that much,,,,,, so you guys tell me who would win>?
takedowns= success

Freshmen and sophomore wrestlers, wrestling for a kids program during sub-district, district, and state, doesn't really count as an affiliation with a kid's program. I wrestled for the South kids program in 1998 as a sophomore, and I wrestled in sub-district, district, and state. However, I think I only attended 2 or 3 South High kids practices. So I wouldn't consider the South High kids program as a significant influence on my wrestling background. Kids programs really only benefit wrestlers that participate in them all year long. So, high school wrestlers, who have never wrestled before high school, gain the majority of their training in the high school wrestling practice and at high school tournaments.

Mr. Phippin,
Scotty Goodale, wrestled and won the title in 1990 at 103! I did say the list was a quick list and couldn't remember what weight he wrestled but the past state champions on this site listed as follows... I should remember since I was another finalist for this year (actually the only finalist NOT to win - hence, why I can't remember what weight scotty was)
1990 - (5A) Goodale, Scott [Arkansas City] (103 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Pelnar, Tony [McPherson] (112 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Ware, Justin [Arkansas City] (119 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Curl, Chad [McPherson] (125 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Ross, Andy [Blue Valley Stilwell] (130 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Schmidt, Kurt [Kapaun Mount Carmel] (135 lb. )1990 - (5A) Sickman, Jeff [Bonner Springs] (140 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Fowler, Michael [Liberal] (145 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Beeson, Chad [Arkansas City] (152 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Hodges, Aaron [Harmon] (160 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Hernandez, Chris [Arkansas City] (171 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Calder, Chris [Arkansas City] (189 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Gray, Nick [Pittsburg] (275 lb. ) 1990 - (5A) Arkansas City [Arkansas City]
And to Old Fan - as I said the list I put together was a quick list and you are right Eddie Boyer is definitely on the 2nd list and probably should go on the first list!
Practice like a champion today, wrestle like a champion tomorrow

anybody remember John Richey from West High?
That kid could break into a house by just slipping through a door crack. He was like 6 ft. tall and wrestled 103 lbs.....insane.....not to mention unhealthy.

Alright... after MUCH thought I've decided to make an attempt at this. I'm sure I've missed some GREAT wrestlers, but when you are dealing with a program like Hoxie's there are a lot of quality wrestlers to consider. Here's the team I'd put on the mat:
103- Steve Pope (4th '71, 1st '72, 1st '73, 1st '74) 112 - Mike Sample (4th '85, 1st '86, 1st '87) 119 - Wayne Shepard (1st '56, 1st '57, 1st, '58) 125 - Peter Koster (2nd '94, 1st '95, 3rd '96, 4th '97) 130 - Lance Shepard (1st '87, 1st '88) 135 - Travis Baker (1st '96, 2nd '97, 3rd '98, 1st '99) 140 - Mat Gilliland (1st '01, 1st '02, 1st '03, 1st '04) 145 - Troy Reitcheck (4th '91, 4th '92, 2nd '93) 152 - Adam Koster (3rd '96, 2nd '97, 3rd '98, 1st '99) 160 - Mike Gilliland (1st '83, 1st '84) 171 - Les Brown (4th '86, 1st '87, 3rd '88) 189 - David Schippers (1st '76) 215 - Kurt Sulzman (4th '90, 4th '91)

Oops... I missed a weight. Bump Kurt Sulzman up to 275 and put Albert Popp (4th '91, 1st '92) at 215.
