You want us to have the Kansas State Wrestling Tournament in Denver? : > I guess I never thought of that.

I would not be in favor of this. 3-2-1A is a quality run tournamnet and I just can't see how moving it could improve on the great job Fort Hays does with this tournament. they are polite, helpful ,accommodating and even friendly.Gross coliseum is the perfect size for our tournament. I'll be selfish and vote to keep our cozy tournament the way it is.

That's the problem with wrestling. Everyone is selfish and can only think about "I" Nobody is arguing anyone does a bad job hosting, and Hays does better than most. Some of us would just like to see all the tournaments held in one spot to make it a lot easier to cover the all the athletes instead of just a few. I really hate leaving 2/3 of the athletes out of my coverage, so my decision this year will be not to cover any of the state tournaments rather than make a decision on which one to cover. Although recent health developments have caused that to be true, I think I would have gone that route anyway. So many athletes, so few resources to give them the coverage they deserve.

Well I suppose if KCK built a world class arena out by the speedway than that would be a possibility. But with that addition of the Spint Center on the Misouri side, that will never happen. Therefore there is no possible place to have some 200 schools and 12 mats in an arena in Kansas. So it looks like this is the way it is going to be until Wichita builds its new arena and 4a goes back there

I know there are some negatives to changing. I like the 321 at Hays and I am sure Bickley loves it for recruiting. However he does not get to scout the other classes and vice versa. The problem is that there is not a real central location unless it is in Wichita and they do not have a Venue with the glitter of Pepsi Center.
However look at what it would do for PUBLICITY and coaches would have one venue to scout. If it was possible then it would hands down help wrestling in general. Just something to banter around even though it ain't gonna happen

Talk to the 4A Coaches after State this year and see if they chose to return to Wichita with the other two classes or have just the 4A tournament separate. I bet I know what they chose, wonder why 321A won't leave Hays and join anyone else.

The western Kansas get togher is best held out in western Kansas where all the good 321a wrestling is and where they put on a great tournament in a good building. Also i wouldnt really be happy if when i was wrestling for a state championship (assuming i still wrestled and wasnt horribly out of shape) and half the people were paying attention to my match and half were paying attention to another match. Also Rick Bowden spoke to one of my classes last year and said he would never move 321a out of hays unless it was his last option.

Lets move it to Denver. Denver is closer to my house than Hays.

I up for moving it to Denver. Way closer for us than Wichita. About the same as Salina.

Rick Bowden has said time and time again that aslong as FHSU has a wrestling program, KSHSAA will run a state tourney there. It helps KSHSAA and FHSU at the same time. So I don't think you'll ever see FHSU without a tourney nor all 6 classes there.
4A & 5/6A were split due to the cluster of the Wichita/Sedgwick people not taking care of the Col. or building a new facility. 4A locked up Salina for at least 2 years and other sites were considered to move 5/6A as they thought the Col. would be out of commission dureing the renovation. Wichita voters decided to build their own instead of paying $$$ to renovate. Since the Bi Center was already locked up, KSHSAA decided to leave 4A in Salina (at least for the next 2 years) and 5/6A were able to stay put since no work was going to be done to constitute a need to move.
Will 4A go back down to Wichita when (and if, with the way their dragging it out) the new center is built? That would be KSHSAA's call and I'm sure they'll take the 4A coach's opinions into consideration...
But with a class (more than likely 123A) at FHSU "as long as they have a program", we'll never see all 6 classes in Wichita!!

Personally, I always liked Hays — it was fun being the only game in town. And there was no naked Hacky-Sack in the weigh-in area! And even if it meant driving for four-and-a-half hours to get there, it was State and that's what it was all about!

Your telling me that recruiting coaches depend solely on the state tournaments to recruit. I would think that the coaches waiting till then may be a little behind.I do not apologize for being selfish in wanting 3-2-1-A in Hays. We've got someting really good going on there and it would be be anti-productive to mess it up. Even if it does cause an inconvenience to some reporters. Ask Fort Hays for press releases, I mentioned they are accommodating. Or perhaps you could find a stringer to report for you, it's not uncommon in the field, particularly in sports to have a reporter stringing for different papers. I know some radio stations are getting reports from existing station that normally cover 3-2-1-A. Just because you can't be there doesn't mean it can't be covered. If you truely want the coverage you can get it.
