I was wondering if K-STATE is planning on selling t-shirts to raise money, or if they do where could I get one.

There is a couple of ways... you can go this link KSU Wrestling or they will have them at Kids State this weekend. If all else fails send me your address in a PM and I will make sure you get one. The cost has been $15.00

If the truth was known the money is probably spent at a Waffle House some where in the five state area! In all reality the first and foremost allocation is to completely eliminate any out-of-pocket expense incurred for the student/athlete… equipment needs, entry fees, transportation, food and lodging to events in their schedule. These kids are broke college students and the student shouldn’t have to spend any personal money to represent their school. Secondly to cover any cost that the Coaching staff (these guys are volunteers) may incur while on the road. Third on the list is to provide resources to promote wrestling within the student body and administration at KSU with the hope that some of University moneys will trickle back in to the form of tuition relief and books. Last and not least you got to move money to make money! Our ultimate goal to reinstate D1 Wrestling at KSU… there are many ways that have been discussed on how to achieve this dream, but ultimately it’s going to take cash and lots of it! So if you have an interest in helping these young people out or have any questions about the legitimacy of this endeavor please contact Ron Tacha (KSU Alum and former KSU D1 wrestler). Mark,

Very good answer. You, Ron, Jennifer, Erik, Beau and the rest of the Manhattan wrestling community are doing an incredible job in helping the KSU Wrestling Club prosper. I joined your effort a couple of weeks ago as a booster. I am also going to support the KU club team as it works to get reinstated. But I am happy to be a KSU booster too and I think the KSU club is doing the right things to eventually bring D-I wrestling back to KSU. I encourage everyone including fellow KU alumni and students to send at least $10 to Jennifer to become a KSU Wrestling Club member. Good job and congratulations on your individual national champion this year and on Beau winning the Coach of the Year award. I will also add that these university wrestling clubs do not get enough money from the universities to pay for the needed expenditures to help them to compete and as Mark said ultimately for these clubs to prosper there needs to be some sort of financial assistance for some of the wrestlers. Some potential wrestlers are unable to participate due to the need to work part time jobs to finance their living expenses.

Actually Eric is up in your neck of the woods… He’s stationed at Leavenworth (not the prison). I think regardless of where he’s at he will always be a big part of this vision. I think it’s one of those Army things… HOOAH!

Heck I bet Ron would foot the bill all by himself lol. Give up a little bit of that Norton money he has squirreled away. Just kidding. I know your heart is in the right place and I am all for those kids and coaches in the quest. I just have my doubts if K-State is ever going to be the place that DI wrestling will be resurrected in this state. They have shown zero interest in wrestling since they gave it up. I was hoping that Wichita State might be approached about it. Maybe they were and it didn't fly, I don't know. I would even like to see some of the DII's in this state be approached about it. With the interest in Southeast Kansas and the east side becoming more and more wrestling savvy, maybe Pitt State and/or Washburn might be such a place. I wish I would be wrong about K-State, but they were pretty square headed about wrestling before and since. Maybe Ronnie can lay that golden personality on them and get them to change their minds, who knows huh.

The bottom line is… D1 or not we just want to do what is right for these kids. They work their tails off three nights a week. Give up their parties and free love on the weekends. Help out with the Kids club, try to get an education and pay the bills. The least we all can do is support them financially. I remember what it was like not to have any money! I still have most of nothing \:\)

He would but he's fairly modest and would like to share all the glory with a few other old school guys that got deep pockets!

If you guys are looking for a fundraiser that pays pretty good for none profit organizations look in to running bingo. The Great Bend Kids Wrestling Club runs bingo two nights a week and they have established a scholarship fund for wrestler from Great Bend. The bingo hall here guarentees $100 profit every night you work; I do not know if it would be the same amount elsewhere. Look into it its a good fundraiser for 3 hours a week if you can put up with the smoke. Also if people want to get a 4 year college going in Kansas you have to get feeder programs in the jucos started! If the big universities see that 3/4 of the jucos have wrestling that is a big swing in the way of gettin wrestling at a big college.

There are so many good things happening on this site and in Kansas Wrestling that I had to join in!! This is my first post. I have to say that it meant so much to see a number of great things in the past couple of weeks!

1. Steve Kern 4 time All American & National Champ.
2. Beau Tillman NCWA Coach of the Year.
3. Gonzo (a Mover & Shaker for the Boosters) honoring Beau Tillman, Randy Lewis (founding booster) and Jennifer Berggren (membership director & ball of fire!) on behalf of the State.
4. Drew Welchert (Assistant Coach for K-State) driving all the way down from Omaha to man the booth to sell T-Shirts and talk up the club.
5. Supporters from the whole state buying T-Shirts to support the Club.
6. Supporters from the whole state joining the boosters to support the club.
7. Beau Tillman's wife and neice manning the K-State Wrestling Booth. Beau's wife making the first professional looking dislpay about the club to post at tournaments.
8. Teams challenging each other on this talk forum to raise more money than each other. (This is something that I never thought of at all).
9. Aaron Sweazy keeping everyone informed about the club's happenings in multiple forums.
10. Leana Grader giving the club a good deal on a booth at the State Tournament.

I really think that the fun is in really applying ourselves to the task of pursuing a National Title in the NCWA and D-1 wrestling at K-State. I never was a state champ in high school or in kids' wrestling but I sure had fun trying!

I have been a part of many amazing teams, but I don't think that I've ever really been swept up in the fun & excitement of a movement. Right now I'm getting fired up about this movement!! Keep it up!!

Erik,

Welcome to the forum. I am sure you will be a great forum contributor just as you have been a great addition to the KSU wrestling club.

Let's see though isn't Lansing closer to Lawrence? Maybe Klint Deere needs to recruit you to help him revive the KU Wrestling Club too.

Vince,

Thanks for the kind words! I'll set my first goal as posting more comments than the Sweaz!! Just kidding.

In regards to a KU team, they had something going a few years back and dualed at K-State against KSU and Texas Tech. It would be great if they had something still. A good rivalry is a healthy thing. I have thought of a consolidated approach to college support especially because we have so many great College Teams in Kansas! I got to visit Colby CC and Fort Hays State a few times and watch them. There is actually a lot of impressive college wrestling going on in the state.

I may be able to assist with KU if there is an interest, but I believe that we need to focus our efforts on KSU very hard. It is a very big task that we are attempting. My contributions to the team have been very sporadic in the past and I finally seem to be caught up enough to lead the effort to the next level. In the next couple of weeks we'll be coming up with a strategy for the coming year with a schedule of events... to include partying together. It's time to really have some fun with this.

Erik

According to the Kansas State wrestling website ( http://www.k-state.edu/wrestling/ ) they are having an open house on April 14th? Does anybody have information as to when and where the Open House will take place? I would like to get as many people there for that event as possible.

Guys,

Beau is planning on having a booth and Jennifer said she plans to attend as well. I just got back from a trip to Minnesota (land of D1 National Champs) and will get a letter out to the boosters with our 2007 plans with some details. This is post #4 Sweaz!! I think I can catch him Dave!
