Well from what i heard Aaron Hoag from Ark City lost to John Keller in the first round but went on to upset Sal Tovar in 3rd and 4th place finish and as what i can see by the rankings Aaron Hoag was not even listed.

Maple at WH is pretty incredible. Beat 3x state champ Graham in the semi-finals and then took another state champ (Tanenbaum) to the wood shed. Detmer and Disney are both animals. Excellent finals!!! Derby High School should be commended for the pace of the tournament.

Regarding OW - I agree that Detmer was very impressive. Maybe it has something to do with the credentials of his opponent? And, it is OW for the TOURNEY, not the whole season (he has pinned all?! WOW!).
Nothing against Mr. Fisher (I'm quite confident that either one of them could pin me in 30 seconds with one arm tied behind their backs), but it seems as if Mr. Caldwell might be a 'tougher' opponent that Mr. Fisher?
Your thoughts Renegade?

I watched the whole tournament. I can't say I disagree with Arnold for OW. No disrepect to Mitch but most people I talked w/ before the finalss thought Caldwell would probably win (I obviously didn't talk to enough Carol people). However the feeling on Kyle and Brent was pretty mixed. Could go either way. Mitch wrestled really good. Really, really good. He attacked and made the match his. I think when the match was over Mitch left alot of people impressed. I think the OW went to the guy who left most people saying WOW! And that was Arnold. Personally I might have voted for Maples but I don't get a vote.

Is the award OW, MVW or WOW? To me, if you dominated and scored that maximum points you could for your team and your team wins the championship then you would be the Most Valuable Wrestler and if you pinned everyone you wrestled that would be Outstanding. What more could you do? I honestly don't like the OW because it is so subjective. Maybe it is really Most Popular wrestler of the tournament...

Your thoughts Renegade? This discussion is not meant to disparage Mitch Arnold. Mitch earned a fantastic win in the finals and is having another great season. However, Fisher is definitely in the same quartile as Caldwell. Having Tapia in the bracket also made 152 much tougher than 145. Secondly, pinning your way through it vs. a one-point win doesn't seem to compare. Kendric Maple could have also won OW with the way he beat a 3X Champion in the semis on his way to beating a State runner-up by 10 points. That was actually the biggest WOW of the tournament. This tournament provided Kansas with some great discussion! Elliott/Koehn, Keller/McCormick, Deshazer/Tanenbaum, Means/Livengood, Nelson/Houlden and Rosenhamer/Brown..... In all, a tournament to remember for a long time. It makes you dream about a Grand State!

Cokely and Renegade, I like and agree with your points. Thank you. I am not aware of Fisher's achievements. Could you share them please?
Thank you.

Are Maple and Graham in the same 'divison'? (ie. 4a, 5a, 6a)
If so, it looks like it will be very hard for Mr. Graham to earn his fourth title if they are both in the same bracket at the state tourney this year. However, he (Graham) does seem to peak when he needs to. Should be interesting (ala Cornejo vs. Zuzsa).
Sorry the for mispelled names.

Don't get me wrong. Kyle could have got OW and no one could complain. I just think the reason Arnold got it was that most coaches probably considered his win more of an upset then Kendrick's or Kyle's.
Graham is at Ark City which is 5A and Kendrick is at Wichita Heights which is 6A.
One of the best matches of the night that has'nt been mentioned was Means/Livengood.

I saw plenty of 5a kids beating 6a kids last night. So, I don't think that argument holds much water. No disrespect towards anyone intended in that statement.
I was impressed with Atticus. I have heard a lot about him but I have never seen him wrestle. Very impressive. What does he weigh and what are his plans after HS? Hasn't he done well on the NATIONAL level also? I know you are not one to brag, so please don't consider it bragging as I am merely asking for some facts! ;-)
Thanks.

I wasn't saying anything about 5A or 6A except answering your question about whether Tyson and Kendrick are in the same division.
Thank for the compliments on Atticus. He is weighing about 235 - 240. He has signed with the University of Minnesota.
